Default Does Topps really care about its customers?

The simple answer is no. If they did, they would work really hard at making sure each product line is distinct and special.

Case in point...Guess which of these came out of a box that prices out to $13/card and which one is $100/card??

Thanks Topps for being a model in maximizing efficiency by not having to pay anyone to dream up new designs.

The real funny thing is that the Museum Collection card is nicer looking.

Yeah but the five star is thicker. That is quality thickness and it shows care for us as customers.

I used to always try at least one high end box of any sport when it came out. Not only did I not open up a box of Five Star, this kind of stuff has driven me out of sport cards and into non sports cards. It seems that companies like Cryptozic actually care about their customers and strive to put out awesome products while not cranking the presses on it, making the product somewhat collectible.

They do until they are big enough that people will buy whatever gets packed out.

Press Pass and Cryptozoic come to mind as companies that seem to care.

Yeah, I was thinking of the little guy after I posted...In The Game came to my immediate mind.

I'll agree with that. They care just as long as they have to. When they have a pro sports license (and especially a monopoly), well then, you just stfu and buy our products, because you have no choice.

Leaf has to care because they have nothing going for them as far as a license. If you dont like topps then dont buy their products.

With 2013 Museum you are guaranteed 1 hit per pack. Two Auto's per box. A cost of a hair under 200.00 per box, and a bunch of base and jersey cards. I'll still take Five Star over that. I don't care if they love me or not. I have kids for that.

their customer service is truly dramatic, they have not responded to any of my e-mails for the last 4-5 weeks, and before that they have not been very helpful and it was not unusual if you would not get answers to any of the questions you asked them.

living overseas makes it difficult to keep calling them with every problem I encounter.

the only thing you can do is stop buying their products and stick with Upper Deck, Panini or Leaf.

What you can stop doing is buying wax and buy singles from packs opened by others. I'm guilty of it, but busting wax is mostly for suckers.

I haven't busted a hobby box in YEARS (maybe 12 or 13 years). And Leaf cares because they see how many collector's are pissed off with this hobby. Too bad Topps' whole operation didn't get marooned by Hurriblizzard Sandy.

I don't see how anyone is really "boycotting" Topps by sticking to the secondary market. If there is a demand on the secondary market, there will be guys willing to break and sell. If people stopped buying on the secondary market, that would also help sticking it to Topps. Whether you break boxes or buy singles, you're not giving Topps any incentive to change.

(I buy boxes and cards, so I'm not advocating a boycott or anything like that. Just find the "stick to singles and show Topps!" logic faulty.)

I mean stick to singles so you don't give Topps the chance to shove it in your tailpipe. There will never be a boycott. Topps has no incentive to change. Win your personal game by buying singles. They won't change, but you will know what you're buying. That or buy dozens of cases, and spend countless monotonous hours with you and any family member you can get to sort and collate so you can make a few bucks on a set and pray for that big hit that may never come. I'll stick with a regular job and singles from now on. Buying one or 2 cases is a lotto ticket and the product quality is as well.

As long as you buy the cards (even off of eBay picking up singles) they will continue to push the stuff out

Simple supply and demand so quit buying anything from Topps and that also includes singles off eBay!!!!

Yes! This articulates my relationship with the Topps Co. better than I ever could have done myself.
