I had planned on PC'ing Addison Russell and stockpiling his autos, and bid on both the low-end and high-end auto lots.

Couldn't justify it vs. just snapping up singles on ebay.

I'll PC someone else this go-around.

Bingo. Most of the best lots sold for much much more than value.

Bought 40 lots, average of $26 per lot.

Each lot will yield 48 inserts, including those /99, /25 and /1. Great value as far as I'm concerned ...

I paid about $100 more than I wanted to, but getting them all from the same spot will cause me less angst. I'm a big believer in this kid, if he was in a Yanks or Boston Jersey, his auto would be double already.

But he's on the As which substantially limits his value now and in the future. Who is the last As player who had any real hobby value? Todd Van Poppel is the last one I recall. I'm sure there has been one or more since then, but still.

What kind of question is that? Is Ted Williams still good at baseball?

The overall point is that the A's will trade their in-prime players (did McGwire hit any homers after he was traded away?) or looming FAs for prospects because they can't afford to compete on payroll with the Yanks and other big-market teams.

Base supers of draft picks can go for $300-$400. Last year I pulled a non-auto Super of Matt Skole and sold it via BIN for $400 within an hour of listing it.

My only point is that just because someone was drafted by the A's doesn't mean they will spend their entire career with the A's.

Saying "yeah but they aren't good anymore" had no bearing on whether the A's will trade someone or not.
