Add another 880 base auctions and 50 DieCut lots ... he may come out of this at over $45,000.
Did you take into account the $12.95 per auction he was charging for s/h?

Boomo went to Church Sunday I'm thinking and said his prayers. He did say combined shipping.

It's my understanding that if you do over 200 transactions in a year or if your total sales revenue is $20k+ then you would get a 1099-K from the payment processor (Paypal), pretty sure this meets both criteria.

Fees would be tax deductible, as would shipping costs, as would home office/mileage/ink for labels/etc.

I think tax liability could be offset by a chunk of deductions, or creative accounting.

you guys are all very good math wise, cept the one guy who says break even. No break even, easy money made. I did this this way for one reason. After running box breaks for 4 months, it amazed me how well they did as opposed to ripping wax and trying to recoup. So i figured if people would gamble on teams, why not players? i told some one helping me that this should do 45k by accident on a bad day, and it got there with 250 auctions left. not getting rich, wont be taking a cruise=, but a decent chunk of change for what will be a lot of work, fun, but hard. Also i know for 100% certain the guy who won the super wont do any kind of charge back, he is a real stand up guy and really liked the chance to gamble that way. He actually emailed me with 30 minutes to go and guaranteed he would win it and couldn't wait to see how he did. In the end its all about action, and people love action.

I'd front the $$$ if I was somewhat assured of getting a $5k+ return on it. No-brainer.

If he had done this for 2011 Bowman Chrome (Harper mania with Lawrie/Hosmer autos) what would the Harper base/ref/blue slot have gone for?

$3k+??

Yup, this was a great idea.

I would be willing to take action on the o/u of 3 competitors preselling using the same method next May.

Preselling base player lots was the norm in the late 90's/early 00's but that fell to the wayside as autos took precedent and big boys like mr.mem dropped out. Adding the "gamble" to presells could be the future. Not my cup of tea but the interest is obviously there.

Be careful Boomo. While the $$$ is gonna be $50k ish (and the profit very solid), you might be saddled with a lot of negative feedback. Even if this is 100% stand up ... some will feel cheated and eBay will not defend you.

Hell, if I don't get my expected 130 chrome per lot, 210 prospect paper, 310 RC paper ... WATCH OUT!!!!

Heh.

In the end I let them all go. I feel like I'm gonna regret it, but I almost got in two car wrecks driving home today, and missed having dinner with a friend cause I was running late, and it just felt like a bad omen. Hopefully I can pick up some singles, and maybe the next time someone does a 50 case break of something I'll be in a new job that gives me more expendable income XD.

I had sold some cards in order to get ready for the auctions, but just spent it on a few Delgado cards I wanted instead. I really don't need to start a new collection obsession anyway, should just stick to having a few cards here and there and be happy.

I will say though, that I would have been a lot more inclined to bid if things hadn't been so broken up. It would be a lot more fun to be able to buy one auto lot and one chrome lot, and not know that if the super gets pulled I won't get it. (Cause no way could I afford the super lot.) That's part of the reason I didn't even snag some of the cheaper chrome lots, cause everytime an auto was pulled I wanted I would have been sad I didn't get that one too. Don't know how other buyers felt about that.
As the winner of both Plawecki auto spots and chrome thru gold spot, I'm glad you backed off. Including 20 cases of Plawecki autos from Houdini, I can't wait.

Wonder how he would have done if he just kept them as player lots that included everything. That would he easier to sort and ship, if you could make close to the same.

my fear is that he will get hammered with some people filing chargebacks, and at the end of the day ebay/paypal will side with the buyer if they get nothing despite the warnings in the listing themselves. good luck and have a ton of fun, also LMK if the valdespins go unpaid as I have 40 cases from houdini's 2 breaks that i would love to add another 50 cases too!!

I think it's the other way around. You didn't set your snipe high enough.

Now I have 70 cases of Pete O'Brien including Houdini's break.

You guys do realize that Boomo does this as his business right? The ups guy probably has his cell phone and visa/versa. If the guy has been on the route for a while he's probably telling his buddies that Draft is dropping next week and he's gonna have several boxes on his truck.

dammit!!
I missed out on the Taillon and Cole Future Game lots because of a horrible wifi connection last night.

Have fun, Boomo! Let me know if either of those winners are NPB and I'll match their winning bids!

Also remember, he has quite a few jumbo cases to make money on as well. I have to assume (and I think I previously heard) that he was sitting on Jumbos. No reason someone would buy 50 hobby and not add a few jumbos

I'm happy for Matt. Brilliant idea that I know will be close to flawlessly executed. Matt lives for this stuff.

I got 2 lots of base chrome-gold refractor of Orioles prospects. Should be fun to watch (even if I only watch like 30 minutes of the break).

Great idea, and he will make good money as people way overpaid for the auto slots. I'll definitely be checking it out even though I didn't win anything.

Who wants to go add up every slot he sold, take out fees and tell us how much it totaled?
