Who wouldn't right now? It's about their value and Morneau will get them nothing close to a top prospect or MLB ready pitcher at this point. Willingham would.

I think Hicks will make the team out of spring training and the Twins will hold off moving both Morneau and Willingham until the deadline. Opening day roster looks something like this:

C: Mauer
1B: Morneau
2B: Dozier
SS: Carroll / Florimon
3B: Plouffe
LF: Willingham
CF: Hicks
RF: Parmelee
DH: Doumit

Rotation:

Diamond
Worley
FA (Liriano / Saunders / etc)
Gibson
Hendriks / DeVries / Deduno

By the deadline I'd expect to see Benson and maybe Arcia called up to fill in for Willingham & Morneau.

I dont understand why they would resign Liriano. He simply isnt very good. During part of the season last year, he really should have been sent down!

Why does everyone think we can get something of value for Morneau? He is injury prone, on the downside of his career, and owed 14 million dollars. Nobody would give up anything for him unless we ate the majority of his salary. Quit living in a dream world.

Really?! That surprises me for some reason. It seems like his niche would be 1st base

They're reportedly "out" on him now anyway. I couldn't figure it out either. He was horrid last year, why bother giving him another go?

I can't find the links, but I read on several sites that this is where they intend to get him his AB this year.

Twins' GM: Hicks, Mastroianni, Benson to compete for starting CF job | 1500 ESPN Twin Cities ? Minnesota Sports News & Opinion (Twins, Vikings, Wolves, Wild, Gophers) | Sportswire: Minnesota Twins

Mackey mentions it here, but Gardenhire & Ryan have both been quoted as saying Parmelee's spot will be RF this year. Parmelee was actually drafted as an OF and converted to 1B due to organizational need - that being said I think he's become a more natural 1B. Still, he's got to be better than Doumit in the OF.

Nobody has mentioned much about Florimon. I like him a lot better than Carroll. He could have potential.

I still wish we could trade owners with the Blue Jays.

Coming off of 2- 90 loss seasons, I can't imagine they were going to be able to sign too many top shelf starters unless they were going to throw out some pretty big $$$$$. If Correia repeats his line from last year it is an improvement over what they had at #2-5. I don't love it, but it is a cheapish innings eater.

Mike Pelfrey. Hopefully healthy. At least we have a potential starting 5 now. Hopefully a few other names will sign on the dotted line.

Frank Viola

For

Kevin Tapani - Winning Pitcher Game 2 - 1991 World Series / 75 Wins with the Twins

Rick Aguilera - Winning Pitcher Game 6 - 1991 World Series/ 254 Saves with Twins

David West - Tim Drummond - Jack Savage

...That's the only example that matters.

So in 25 years, there are two examples? (And I loosely put Santana in here because there were about 4 teams that were going to be able to afford his salary demands) Not sure how that equals out to ALWAYS trading stars for prospects. I think that trade worked out pretty well for the Twins. Especially with Aggie and Tapani being key cogs in the 1991 WS.

Rich Harden to a minor league contract. Low risk-high reward. I like it.

Nice. I really like this move. Barring his comeback from injury, Harden still has great strikeout potential. I liked the Pelfrey signing as well.

I'm a big fan of taking some risks on oft-injured guys with potential. How much worse could it really get anyways? Correia will likely just eat innings and leave us in the same place we were last year (+ a new, decent sized contract) while Harden could be big if he returns back to form.

Terry Ryan is my hero. I love the way he works. Imagine if he hadn't left.

Get sano's ass up to the mlb, because he is the next arod! Then sign him to a multiyear deal, and he will become the face of the twins and all the pieces will begin to fall into play. Twins are going to be good in the future!

Juice or not, Sano should never be compared to Arod. Hitting aside, Arod could field the baseball, and steal bases.

Sano is at least 2 years away. Don't get too excited.
