Question Grading Dilemma

If you had a Finest card graded BGS 9 with the following subgrades Centering 9.5, Corners 9.5, Edges, 9.5 Surface 8 Would you crack it and remove the protective coating and re-submit it for a possible 9.5 or just leave it slabbed?

The surface grade would have to get a full point bump to a 9 for it to get a 9.5 overall. Unless there are a couple smudges that you forgot to clean off I think it is a long shot for the surface to get bumped to a 9.

A Jordan Finest Refractor looks better with the coating, but that's just me. Leave it be.

I wouldn't peel the film off.

Most finest collectors prefer the film left on, and will take that into account when looking into purchasing the card. It's nice that all subs are gem besides the surface too!

I agree with refractors do look better with the protective coating.

no way would I resubmit, could be a lot of work and money to get the exact same grade only minus the protective coating this time

I'd leave it be. I would assume collectors would notice that removing the film would more and likely make it a gem if you end up selling it.

Don't waste your time trying to get a full point bump.

Now it's right down the middle. As a great band once said..... "Let it be! Yeah let it be!"

Crack it... I had the same exact grades and I peeled the coating off because I didn't notice it had a scrape in it but when I peeled it the card was perfect card got 9.5 on surface 1.5 bump... I did wipe down the surface with a micro fiber cloth also.

Edit: I did do it to another card also.. it got the same grade 8.5 surface so who knows (the card that got the bump had a noticeable wear on the coating)

What card was it that you sent in that got the 1.5 bump?
