In fairness he has been quite good the last 3 years, although last year his strikeout rate spiked by almost 3k's/9. I would imagine it was an anomaly and it will regress to around 5 or 6 this year. He would still be a good pitcher, just not worth an elite prospect in my mind. As I said earlier, if TDA is involved, the deal is bigger in my opinion.

Umm, pretty sure you said he hasn't been good throughout his career. Either way, who cares, if the jays get him I'll be jacked. If d'arnaud is in the deal it just means we are getting something else, maybe a davis in an expanded deal, or maybe a bullpen arm. Whatever happens, this team is miles better than it was last year....I mean kilometers better.

You could've said in 2010 "He's 36. This is just a fluke." You could've said in 2011 "He's 37 years old! It's all down hill from here." It's 2012, and he's 38 years old and coming off a dominating year. He's just proving that age doesn't matter for a knuckle ball pitcher like himself. If anything, really being in the league for only 3 years with the knuckle ball would only help him because it's still relatively new to the league. Phil Niekro was throwing 200+ innings at 47. Wakefield was still effective at 44. Why can't Dickey be able to do that, especially when he's only been here for three years, while those guys were in the league since their twenties? |

Doesn't matter if he is not effective.

Alright, but he still gave the Sox some innings. Obviously not the greatest example to compare to Dickey, but it's just another reason to see why it's not ridiculous to think Dickey can pitch into his 40's. He's better than Wakefield, and if Wakefield could still give 150+ innings at age 44, Dickey should be able to no problem and still be a good pitcher, assuming he doesn't suffer any freak injury.

Guessing the lack of anything finalized is because of Dickey's reported unwillingness to sign an extension with Toronto.
As for Dickey, I'll say it again...I don't think anyone sensible is saying he won't be able to pitch effectively into his forties. But unless he can duplicate his 2012 season two or three more times, the asking price of D'Arnaud + just seems much too high.
