Default Why do Topps Unique patches sell for so little?

I've seen some pretty nice looking patches from this product sell for less than $10 delivered on ebay. Actually, most of them sell around that price. Is it the small size of the patch? I saw a Brian Roberts 1/1 MLB logo patch go for around $50. Goes for football also, a nice Reggie Wayne sold for $1.04 + shipping. Just wondering if I am missing something on this set?

I don't think people trust GU'd anymore. Too many big name dealers pleading guilty to fraud and saying Topps knew they were buying fakes.

This + they were very easy to pull. One guaranteed per box I believe.

There are plenty of big names in there that sell for less than $15 (Arod, Chipper, Pujols) so I don't think player selection was the issue.

Topps announced that they accidentally spilled a vat of herpes on them. So any time you come into contact with one, you have a 28% chance of contracting herpes.

Sometimes you have to take risks as a collector. You can't let that Brad Lidge patch just sit in inventory. Worth it.

In 5 yrs we'll all gonna have herpes anyways.

Anywho, I have a Topps Hank Aaron Retired Patch on eBay and I've seen it listed all over the place. I don't get it myself.

Ah...so that's why my "cold sore" flares up every time I bust a box of Topps products. Thought that was weird.

I was watching that auction, too. Figured the guy would take it down as he threatened to do in the listing if the price wasn't to his fancy.

Brob is pretty old news. He was never really news outside of balitmore to begin with.

As for Topps Unique, I thought a few of the cards were pretty nice. The set just isn't popular. Popular sells- plenty of collectors are either kids or sheep and want whats "cool." How can I get a high end Hank Aaron on-card auto for a reasonable price, but if I wanted a blue wizard red ice water bowman steel jurickson profane, I'd have to take out a home equity loan?

Bolded part made me laugh! And I agree...the prices some of these prospects bring blows my mind. I might have to start picking some of these up, regardless of the popularity of the set. PC patches on the cheap can't be beat. Wished I had seen that Wayne before it ended though, I only saw it in the completed auctions. Might have to look for a Manning...

My knowledge of football cards is pretty limited, but my neighbor and I go to shows and shops together, and he actually mentioned recently picking up some really great topps unique football cards. And I agree with you- affordable PC patches are lovely. Even a "steal" for a patch at auction is still pricey.

I pulled this myself and was shocked that it's only worth a couple of bucks. Probably the best patch in MLB I have ever pulled (pics do no justice--it's sparkly, like those vampire movies).

I also acquired this for a Pence printing plate earlier in the year:

Nice looking cards Zoop! That Holliday is insane. If that had been one of the Ultimate Collection patches it would have been much more expensive even though it is the same patch.

Likely so. Doesn't help the cost that it came from A) a team a player spent very little time with and B) where he did very poorly. Still, it's a great PC piece I think.
