it's course correction...jeter is TOO popular, he gets overrated on talent simply because he is so popular, hence the backlash...but make no mistake about it, he is great and he IS a class act, but he's not half as good as people make him out to be (which is darn near a deity)

OMG, Derek Jeter took time out of his busy schedule to call a parent in mourning. Wait a second, it's the off season.

I guess what I don't understand is why does it matter if Jeter called her? It doesn't change the fact that her daughter is gone, nor are his words any more or less powerful than someone like you or me. Are we suggesting that he is an even better person because he called a complete stranger during a time of mourning? I can't say I respect the guy more because he said this.

Are you hearing any stories about any other baseball players doing what Jeter did? No.

Most people in this world probably forget about the tragedy by the next day. Jeter obviously heard about the shooting, looked more into it, read about it, heard about the teacher's amazing sacrifice and then called her, to at least ease the mom's suffering a little bit, and letting the mom know that the world knows about her daughter's amazing sacrifice and we will always appreciate what she did for those kids.

You must not be a fan of Jeter. Because, this made me love him even more. Because, he IS a classy man.
