I'd encourage anyone to go the psacard.com registry, find the Desert Shield set, and email any of the top 10 collectors to get their story of how the cards came into thier possession. What I've found is that most of these cards were distributed overseas (Saudi, Iraq...for the purposes of this story, it doesn't really matter) to US uniformed personnel and then brought home. I also think its a little irresponsible to use the word "stolen", but I understand what you're trying to say.

It is also true that cases of these were taken by just a few people and sent back to the states before most troops found out about them. It's sad that a few "stole" them from the rest.
My father was in the military, and while he remained in the states during the conflict we had several family friends that were there. I know that my friend's father had been on the front lines and he was able to obtain two packs that he brought home for his son, buti am not sure when or where he was able to get them. I also know that several card shops near our base were selling the packs for $50 while they were still being sent out. I think it was a good idea, but with poor implementation and oversight. I agree that it is really unfortunate that a few were able to deprive many people that should have received cards.

did you buy it on ebay then it is very likely fake
who was the seller?
it amazes me people still haven't figured it out yet, there are SCAMMERS on ebay,
most of them are well known and proven to be scammers
tell me the sellers i.d. and i will let you know if he is a scammer
THAT will help you best, found out who the scammers are
AND NEVER BUY ANYTHING THEY SELL!

Far more solid sellers than proven scammers. I bought from a guy that buys bulk lots. I don't think he really knows what to look for on these, but he could be playing dumb. I am sending it to bgs to grade, probably a safer bet to know for sure if it is real. Thanks for the help

Very nice, happy for you!

I just picked up a Puckett Desert Storm BGS 9. Can't wait to get that bad boy in hand.

That is the next one I'll buy. Pucket was my favorite player as a kid.

I am really excited, I just wanted it to be real. All 8 or better subs makes up for the harsh grades on the others I sent in...

wow, very nice! that article was pretty good at confusing people more than sorting out which version is the fake stamp. if you read the comments there are several people who point out that the gold stamp is the real one... however, i'm no expert nor have i ever seen one of these in person.

It was confusing, but what he was saying about the brightness of the gold is correct. The fakes are a lot brighter like the fake one I have pictured earlier on the thread. Most of the fakes will appear raised instead of them being flat. They almost look puffy in comparison to the real one.

I feel much better now. I appreciate everyone's insight into the card's authenticity. If anyone ever needs to know if one of these is authentic I have a pretty good idea of what to look for now.

I'm still waiting to see if my neighbor has a complete set of these.I think he told me somebody in his family use to work for Topps and he use to get alot of completed sets and boxes from his family member and he mention these logo DS cards as we where talking.

I told him a few times if he ever wanted me to look at what he has I would be happy to look....Maybe some day he will have the time but who knows and I also remember him telling me Topps use to have a year end sale for the employee's of the company and they would allow them to purchase boxes and sets.

Who knows for sure where these cards landed and I am sure some of them never made it over to Iraq and landed in dealers hands.Does anybody know what kind of print run are on these cards.

can you post a picture of it when you get it back? I have a '91 wrong back that I am going to send in to get graded soon and I just wanted to compare. I would be jumping for joy if it grades a 8 but the corners have some issues.

Saw this and had to add my little story. Used to be a huge Chipper collector back in the mid-90's and picked up a wrong back error from the beckett forums for like $2 (sent 2 $1 bills via envelope sandwiched between two index cards!). Anyways, in 2006 I had a stash of Bowman Chrome Alex Gordons that I thought would grade well, but needed some cards to round out my submission. In went the Chipper wrong back, which graded out 9.5 gem mint (doesn't show up on the registry as wrong back or anything). Anyways, just messing around and decided to throw the Chipper on eBay with a $1199.99 BIN/BO. Wouldn't you know, an offer of $1k comes through. Not sure what the true "value" of it is, but I know for at least one die-hard Chipper collector out there not even $1k is too high.
