I agree $200 a box would be much more appropriate. That being said I do like this years design.

Same thread, different year. Buy your singles now, hold onto them, and sell them later once MILB starts and cash in.

also a lot of the names I see have autos dating back 3+ years in other products or even in sterling as USA autos. some folks care about uniforms but I'm not one of them. how many more of the rookies even can we have out there this year.

Chrome & DPP > Sterling

Same autos that have been around for years in numerous products and IMO it looks like Platinum which has a lot of the same autos as Sterling. Price point is way too high and collectors prefer Bowman Chrome as well as DPP over Sterling and the resell value on singles reflects it.

i dont understand how any can complain about the srp on sterling

in bowman and bowman you get 1 auto for about 60 bucks (pending what time you get in on bowman )
platinum you get 3 autos for 110 bucks or so (average around 35 bucks each)
sterling you get 3 autos for around fifty

it is not the srp that is the problem
its resale ...
topps is laughing there way to the bank every time people order more chrome or draft than sterling

If you just count autos, sure, Topps is making more money on Draft and Chrome.

But in Chrome and Draft, you get base/chrome/refractors/inserts/codes(in draft).

It also matters that Sterling comes out in December. I think if it came out earlier in the year, it would see a small spike in sales because it is the first one out.

Two separate Francisco Lindor autos just sold on ebay for a paltry $2.25/per. If it's not dead, it's close.

For as much as people hate the "tiered" autos of past releases, this thread makes a good argument for them. Now that Hamilton, Zunino, and Russell are falling 2-4 per case, their prices are going down. If the big names were tiered they would have maintained their value, but then another contingent of BO members would have started a thread complaining that the autos were tiered. You can never make both sides happy. Topps made sure that it was very easy to hit big name autos in this year's product, and now there are more out there than available buyers so prices have gone down.

That's better for the guys that buy the singles or hold. When guys like Zunino and Hamilton get called up next year, the increase in price will be the same type of % increase you see with draft and chrome. It's just Sterling singles will be cheaper.

Take the Lindor example above. When he becomes a stud, a chrome colored auto may go from 100-->200, but the 2.50 Sterling auto goes to $10. You get a better percentage return from the lower end cheap stuff.

Yeah....but I don't mind holding out for a year or two for a $100 return....but for a $7.50 return?

I know OT, but I loved Topps Sterling...even with the sticker autos, was such a cool and well designed product. They should bring back Topps Sterling with on card autos (possibly at a slightly higher price point if need be) and ax Five Star.

If you actually LIKE to collect autos of top prospects, sterling is great. If you're more worried about making money it isn't a good choice. I think its great.

The price point kills it. Also people prefer Bowman Chrome and Bowman Draft cards more. This is supposed to be a weak class doesnt help too.

Sterling has been crap for awhile. Why have people bought it in the first place? It usually has sticker autos (but WHY? Draft / Chrome have on-card autos of the same guys ) Why would you buy a more expensive sticker auto product when you can have on card autos for 1/2 or 2/3 the price!?

I think you miss the point. Using the same math say you buy $100 worth of $2.50 Lindor's. That gets you 40. If they go up as described you have a $300 profit instead of the $100 profit from Draft/Chrome.

Way more work selling 40 individual cards although they sell to a wider group of buyers.

I don't think it's crap at all, love the blue auto set this year, on card for most as well, great chance to pick up purples on the cheap. I.e addison Russell @150 compared to a draft for 700

It's a great product to buy as singles. Christmas in January. For busters...dead as a doornail and a big loser.

Love stockpiling singles in late dec an January by the boatload!!! For dirt cheap prices, especially being a Brewer fan with 4 autos in the set this year

The investment is relative. If I get a Brinson for $4.99 and he becomes hot at any time in the future, I'd expect to get $9.99. Not a bad return on investment. If he flops, it's not too painful.
He's on my list also,
