Does anyone else collect secretively?
My parents/friends have no idea that I collect. I don't tell anyone because, quite frankly, it's embarrassing. I just don't think it's socially accepted that people older than 12 collect sports cards. Does anyone else feel the embarrassment and not tell anyone?

Haha. I don't go out of my way to tell people I collect. Surprising though that when it does come up it's never as weird a reaction as I assume it will be. Pretty much anyone that is 25-40 collected baseball cards at some point.

I only talk about it to the 1 or 2 people that know I do it and actually seem somewhat interested.

I'm 24, I collect Baseball cards and Transformers. I don't care who knows it! I even have an amazing supportive GF! I do YT reviews of Transformers and Box Break videos, I make money off of both channels. As soon as I tell people that they are like "No way!? That's awesome!" In my old house I had a room specifically set up with my BB cards and Transformers, it was the first room people wanted to see whenever they came over. MY buddies thought it was coolest thing they'd ever seen lol! So nah I'm not secretive, no reason to be! People should except you for who you are!

I talk about it to a lot of people and have gotten some back into collecting after they hear my passion for it. Hell, my wife even gets excited now when boxes show up she can help open.

No, it's those 30+ year olds at the LCS buying up Magic cards that are the real weirdos
.Seriously, though, it's a hobby. There are a lot worse hobbies out there if you ask me.

Most people I am friends with know... I don't really care what they think and have nothing to be ashamed of. As you get older you realize everyone has some type of "hobby" that in most circles would be considered strange or dorky.

My whole family knows, and my girlfriend knows. They all give me a bad time but they are supportive of it. I don't go out of my way to tell somebody that I collect though

I don't tell many people -- or I say I collect memorabilia.

And it's not that I am ashamed of it, it's more that I don't want to bore the hell out of people by always talking about it. My wife reads a lot, that's her hobby. But I'd rather kill myself than hear her blab on for 20 minutes about a book she's reading. I take the same approach with cards and realize that most don't care.

Hobbies are healthy for the mind, and I recommend everyone to have one of some kind. They provide a way for a person to relieve stresses from their every day lives IMO. I'm not at all embarrassed about it. I have more important things to worry about than what a person thinks of me collecting cards. It's me having all the fun and them missing out.
