Would he even get a 'RC' labeled card in 2013 when he was considered a rookie in 2012 by plate appearance standards?

If we are talking about Manny Machado his best rookie card is going to be the one from 2010 BDPP, which includes auto versions as well.

Best card yes I agree, but I'm talking about his rookie card...

I would say yes. With such a large number of players getting promoted in August/September Topps would be missing too many players if they couldn't get rookie cards seeded the following year in Series 1, Heritage, Gypsy Queen, Bowman, Archives, etc. Pretty much EXACTLY what happened with Brett Lawrie... Technically a rookie in 2011 but had rookie cards all throughout 2012.

Once again, it depends on which rookie card definition you are using yourself for collecting. His 2010 cards are his prospect cards but the BDPP auto should be the most collected card of his. He does not have a "True" RC yet. It will be in 2013.

Being a rookie in 2012 WILL NOT affect his 2013 card's statues as "True" RC. His 2013 cards will be his first MLB and MLBPA licensed cards, that's why those are RCs. It's like Michael Jordan's Rookie year is 84-85 but his rookie card is 86-87 Fleer.

This. It's the opposite of what happened to Trout. He was a rookie in Topps in 2011 (Update and Finest were the earliest) yet he was still eligible for rookie of the year last year in MLB. For Machado, he might have enough at bats and cant be ROY, but he hasn't had a card other than prospect cards for Topps yet. That makes him a "rookie" for their products, and yes he will be signing a bunch and will be a rookie in mostly every set (so will Profar, even though it looks like he might spend most of the season in AAA).

Although i wouldn't mind getting either of their autos in products this year.

Thats what I'm saying, which 2013 product will have his rookie card? Not his first, best, or most expensive, but rookie cards. I agree they will come out this year, just like Lawrie despite being a rookie last year...

As I said above, 2013 Topps Series 1 will have his first RC Logo card. It's already been said by Topps. He will also be in all other products this year as a Rookie in sets that have rookie cards.

His autos have already dropped off big time. It seems like bundy bundy autos have held their value though.

I was an idiot for buying a couple machados during the season.

I guess this answers the question: MLBPA confirms 53 RC logo eligible rookies for initial 2013 baseball card sets

His first official rookie card will be in the first MLB product released this year, which will be 2013 Topps Series 1. He will have a lot of cards to sign this year
