Default Darin Ruf?

Alright, so I'll admit I'm a baseball geek and typically am aware of most prospects throughout the year. But, Darin Ruf? How have I missed this guy...what's the skinny on him?

I only ask because I noticed all of the activity around his BASE 2013 Topps RC's. I'm guessing he is legit based on the bids and volume.

I don't have the skinny on him but I do remember him hitting his first 2 (or 3?) career MLB home runs against the Nats late last season, especially in his debut game.

He also hit 38 HRs with a .318 batting average in the minors last year... His first auto RC is Elite...

High demand...

He is debuting at an older age. If he averages 30 HR a year, he will be 40 by the time he gets to 400. So the long term growth potential is lesser than players who are 22/23 years old.

Sounds like he just dominated the minors because he was old for the leagues. Sounds (from listening to Keith Law) that at best, he should be Ryan Howard's platoon partner.

Hence the "time will tell" and yes it's a small sample. Just posting the info and in no way shape or form claiming he is going to be an all star or a career minor league player. No one knows at this point and time.

guy had an avg 1st half in the minors than was absolutely destroying the ball the seocnd half, one of the hottest minor league seasons ever as far as power. called up bc they basically had to with those #s, not really a track record besides the second half of last yr though. solid 2011 season but we'll have to see if the last yr #s will continue. i bought one of his autos for $25, eee, i figure its worth the gamble.

Here is a link to some of his stats Darin Ruf Stats, Bio, Photos, Highlights | MiLB.com Stats | The Official Site of Minor League Baseball

I am by no means suggesting anything fishy, but given the contestant stream of ped news, I hope as a Phillies fan that someone going from 9 hrs in 2009 to 38 in 2012 all with about the same number of ABs is simply a product of development. Fingers are crossed.... Rooting for you in left Darin

Players develop into power hitters, sometimes it takes a tweak in the swing. I was never a HR hitter myself, than one year I changed something and I hit 20 in a year. Obviously im no pro but you see what i mean. This special cream someone gave me helped also, he said it wasn't steroids so I know it wasn't.

He is too old to be a prospect, that is why you do not see him on many lists. Does not mean he is going to be a bust or anything but the odds are against him.

Who knows what Philly is gonna do with their OF, so he might play and be decent.

He wont be a star though

Prospect for profit he is way to old. However he is the real deal at this point IMO...went through my old boxes the other day and found 3 2010 bowman chrome cards of his, got ten bucks for them...

His dad actually just bought a couple of his sons 2013 Topps RC's from me that I got in my 5 boxes from Sunday night. Kind of cool. I set aside the rest of my base ruf's and a blue from the rest of the stuff I opened Monday for him.

I'm predicting a .240 avg hitter with 25-30 home runs/75-85 RBI per season
