I worked at a shop when I was 13-17. Had a ton of fun and made extra money flipping autographs because the owner wouldn't buy them (lack of knowledge in that area). I lived right by the place and would go up there after school and help price and organize cards, then he asked if I wanted to work there. So go to your LCS and see if they need some help.

I've found that most LCS's being individually owned don't tend to hire help that often. The whole purpose of being in business for yourself is to make as much profit as possible. It's already hard enough to do that to start with and adding on extra help takes just that much more money out of that bottom line.

Maybe if they also ran a booth at a flea market on the weekends or something like that they might hire someone to watch the shop but then again it's just as easy to get a friend or family member to do it for free.

Submit a resume to Chris and Pat on here. Send them each a copy just in case. You'd have to be willing to relocate but they're always on the look out for some new blood. I hear they have a great 401K and a better than average health care package once you become vested. GL

Why would you email him? Go in there and talk to him. You would have to be someone he knows and can trust since there is thousands of dollars worth of merchandise you would be handling. Honestly I don't see many shops getting to the point to where they need to hire help.

Back when I worked at the shop we were the biggest in Florida and would sell ungodly amounts of cases and boxes, plus singles and memorabilia. I think those times are over at most shops.

Exactly. Networking can do wonders.

Idk how old you are or anything, but if you are under 16 don't expect to be working behind the counter. Probably would mostly be cleaning.

I know for sure if I asked my LCS owner for some sort of job, he'd be all over it. After all, he gives away sorted boxes of cards every time I buy something. Just an awesome guy.

I'm sure you could get a job helping out, but mostly cleaning up, setting up the shop window case (if there is one), and helping out customers. You definitly wouldn't make much, but I assume it'd be an experience that you can both enjoy and build on going forward in the "job world."

Depending how large your local dealer is he may set up at card shows in which case he may close his shop. When I was 16-17 I ran my local card shop when the owner would be down in Chicago for the Nationals, or for any of the other more significant card shows back in the day. So that could be a possibility for you. If your shop has no employees then they may need to close the shop for whatever a reason may be, whether that be going to a card show or something else. You could keep the store open and still make him some money. Of course, it would probably only pay minimum wage. But keep in mind you want to avoid opening packs yourself. I think when I worked I ended up spending more money in packs than I made lmfao

Out of business, closest one to me is now about 30 mins away, near Willow Grove. Forget what it's called though, haven't been there for a while.

No matters I'll be opening my own.....within the next 20 years probably

Years ago my dad and I were very close with a local LCS owner (at the time I was about 9-10 and he and my dad would drink in the back of the store my dad would only have a shot but the owner would be pounding back gin n tonics literally all afternoon).. but he was a good guy.

He closed his shop a couple years later and it's too bad because that would have been a perfect place to work for me through high school.. very close, "working" where I would hang out anyway, wouldn't really have a "boss" - more like a buddy, only work a few hours a day during the week..

Guess it wasn't in the cards.. (pun intended)

I probably would have blew all my pay on wax anyway..
