With Cueto still at least one more week away from coming back ... Tony will pitch again in Chicago on Saturday.

Five very deserved days off this time ... 110 pitches today.

6 IP 2H 1BB 11K

He does throw alot of pitches though. Hes young. If he could figure out how to go a little deeper into games...he is going to be amazing. Highly impressed.

Cingrani might be up a little while longer ... Johnny C couldn't pitch tonight due to soreness so it looks like the clock might be reset on him.

Another start on the schedule for Tony / Friday night at home vs. Milwaukee!

Tony's fourth start in the books ...

6IP / 3H / 4ER / 1BB / 5K / 97 PC

The line is great except the number that counts most (and a slightly elevated pitch count). Soriano made him pay for every base-runner he put on today with the 2 HR's but every other batter was handled. Adds to his overall numbers nicely (only .66 WHIP) but leaves a bad taste in your mouth because of one batter. Time for Cincy to get him off the 4-2 hook.

One more ... Milwaukee. They have a lot of right handed power / Cingrani will have his work cut out for him.

Gonna be a rough night tonight for Tony I think. Something about these Brewers and all those right handed HR or K hitters makes me nervous.

The line for Cingrani tonight could easily be 6IP, 7R, 5 HR, 14K!

It was smooth sailing for Tony through three innings, and he gave up the two runs in the 4th. Dusty Baker loves him so much ... he pulled Tony after the bad inning of giving up the two runs.

As I'm watching the bottom of the 3rd inning, I was begging Cincinnati to get out already. Took 25 minutes and made Tony rusty in the top of the 4th ... but something he'll have to deal with the more he pitches. Now that Cincy is up 3-2 / sucks Tony can't qualify for the win. I'm a little (very) irritated that Baker doesn't allow him out in the 5th.

dusty drives me nuts when he does things like this. he will let other guys struggle through giving runs up like crazy and not pull them. he should of let tony continue on tonight IMHO.

Dusty pinch-hit for him in the bottom of the 4th since Cingrani had already thrown 85 pitches, and the pinch-hitter singled and then scored the go-ahead run.

Can't really criticize Dusty for that...

You bet your ass I can. It makes no difference whether or not Lutz hit's a single or strikes out... it's the wrong move IMHO.

Second time now Baker has not showed confidence in Cingrani ... and even though the opposition is 1 for 21 with RISP in his five starts / Dusty's not a fan. So be it / next start is in Miami next Wednesday. Hopefully Cingrani keeps the pitch count down.

I just hope the Reds leave him up in the rotation when Cueto returns.

Dusty Baker proving yet again he's anti-Cingrani ... Matt Latos pitching today absolutely sucked. He had given up 4 runs though 4 innings and got into big trouble in the 5th. Gave up two more runs, (on walks and hits but Baker leaves him in for the W), had 1st and 3rd one out and got a good DP from Rickie Weeks.

6 Runs, 86 pitches, Baker brings him back out for the 6th! Where Latos gives up a HR, then a walk (and he still leaves him in of course) and Latos gets out of the inning.

5IP / 9H / 7R / 3BB / 4K / 107 Pitches.

I understand that veterans get a little more lee-way sometimes but to pull a young kid who had given up 2 runs in 4 innings (taking away his chance for a W, and to leave the game with a good inning) and to allow Latos to pitch the 6th when it was clear he was way off today ... I don't understand.

But / I have no doubt in my mind that when Cueto returns (three more Cingrani starts), the ERA leader on the Cincinnati Reds will be sent down to AAA.

Sad face.

Hard to compare the two situations but trust me I understand where you are coming from, I didn't think Cingrani should have been pulled either. But this game was not nearly as tight as that game plus the bullpen needed the rest.

I agree that the situations are different ... Big lead you let Latos absorb an inning if he can (to a certain extent) but the big issue I have is this.

Cingrani had not given up more than 2 base runners in ANY inning this year (4K inning not withstanding) except the 4th inning yesterday. That's 27 innings / no more than 5 batters faced each and every time. So for the first time all year, he ran into a bad inning, and still got out of it only giving up the two runs.

And then he's pulled in a 2-2 game in the 4th inning. Every other pitcher on that staff would have stayed in the game ... Not a fan of Baker is the slightest.

It's official ... Reds moved Tony's start back one day to Friday against Philadelphia; after said start he'll be going back to AAA.

It was fun while it lasted. Hope he goes out in style on Friday / and we'll likely see him on the opening day roster in 2014 (perhaps a call-up in September, depending on where the Reds are) Not gonna lie, would have been nice to see him stay up longer and battle for ROY but I think I was delusional to even consider the possibility. Leake was never going anywhere.

As a Reds fan I think they need to send Leake down instead.
