Default Max Scherzer and Al Alburquerque - Most Underrated Pitching Combo in MLB

Much like the ladies love the long ball - ladies also love seeing those K's hung on the scoreboard. Two pitchers that have continually impressed me with their K-rate are two pitchers that I don't think get much publicity around here.

Last year, Scherzer led the MLB with an impressive 11.08 K/9, this season he running an 14.21 K/9 clip.

Alburquerque had an arm injury last year, but is blowing through batters again. In 2011 he averaged around 11 K/9 and this year he back up in the 14 K/9 average.

What a great combo for Detroit. Hopefully when they get their closer role hammered out, it will be an even better 1-2-3 combo.

Herrera and his 15+ K/9 says hi!

Scherzer is underrated - one of a few NL pitchers to come to the NL almost seemlessly.

That 5.14 ERA kind of overshadows his numbers.

scherzer is definately underated, a really great pitcher that is overshadowed by verlander. Al on the other hand has had two good games so far this year, he needs to be consistant with throwing strikes before i call him underated

Al Alburquerque is by far my favorite named player in the league.

His real name is apparently Alberto Alburquerque, which really just makes it better.

Scherzer I think is slightly underrated, but within the Baseball community, he's given pretty high praise, it's the casual fan who doesn't really know how good he is yet.

Yes, Scherzer is underrated and partially because he's overshadowed by Verlander, but I don't even think he is the Tigers second best pitcher, I think Fister is.

Either way, the Tigers have four pitchers who would be a #1 or 2 on basically any other staff in baseball, best starting rotation in the league by a decent margin
