Default Slab expert opinions needed -- Should I submit this Harper Chrome auto for BGS?

I just won this on COMC for a very good price. The auto looks great based on the scans on COMC, and in my non-expert opinion the condition looks great. I've never submitted a modern card for grading before, but am thinking about using COMC's service for them to submit to BGS.

I would greatly appreciate any opinions. I think I'd spend the $31 fee for the weekly service.

What do you guys think?

Centering looks like 9. As long as everything else is 9.5, you're good.

I would recommend against it. IMO it'll grade no better than a 9, maybe an 8.5 and the auto will probably also be a 9 at best.

It's off-center left to right and top to bottom (left border wider, top border wider) and Beckett really slams the auto when it leaves the "signature area" the way this one does.

But of course...this is just my opinion...

I just dropped off three that had a similar auto and were just slightly better centered. Will be able to answer you better in 20 days. Based on what the grader told me when I handed them to him I would lean towards no though. He felt mine would maybe be a 9 and like I said, they were centered just a little better.

But of course...this is just 100% WRONG...

i wouldn't grade it unless it looks amazing in person. there's a reason it's on COMC & still raw. I would guess roller marks.

looks 9 centering, sorry but i don't understand why anyone is saying 9 auto though, quick glance looks solid to me, but like seth said, you have 1 strike already i'd say odds aren't looking good for you

I would think 10 auto too but the reason I took my three in that were slightly off centered is because they had super bold non streaky autos just like this one appears to have. For this card a 9/10 is still a bump in price. Problem is that the grader was super rough on them. He was thinking the autos would be a 9 even though he said and I quote "these are some of the best Harper autos that I've ever seen". I was floored and almost walked with them but it was an hours drive to get there.

Yikes, is that what they are going to charge? Good luck with that. I choked when I got the invoice for mine and that was hand delivered and without shipping and insurance.

I think it is more. I didn't ask for the price for same day but the guy this week that did the Buxton Blue said it was $42 ish otd if memory serves. But, he had to drive down there, spend his time, gas, deal with the hassle (it is a hassle, horrible set up) etc. When you look at it that way $31 isn't awful but that is only in that context. Grading takes what, 10 minutes per card at most? Add in a $3 slab. Does that really equate to $20-30 much less $31 or $42? I don't think so personally but people must.

Hello Guys,

Monthly service is $12 + 1% of the items declared value for insurance.
Weekly service is $25 + 1% of the items declared value for insurance.

There is an additional $2 for autographed cards.

Regards,

Thanks. For the Harper I bought, I was given the following prices - so the final costs would have been:

Monthly service is $18
Weekly service is $31

It looks like a 9/10 auto. I dunno if it'll sell for $31 more than selling raw though

I appreciate everyone's feedback. I'm going to have it shipped back to me raw, and sit on it for a few years. Thanks!

In a few years you can have these for 250-300 all day, guaranteed. Not because he will do bad, but because collector's will have long moved on to the next big thing. Look at Trout today...that will be Harper next year

so you can get your card graded directly from comc without even having to receive it first ? that's pretty neat.

Think about this guys...it's a Bryce Harper Chrome auto (arguably his best prospect auto)...don't you think it would have been graded already?!

I'm thinking there is some wicked surface issues not visible on the pic...rarely do these types of cards go ungraded almost 2 years after release.

Solid Point! Especially considering that you can send in a card for grading with lets say a 9.5/10 minimum grade...if it doesn't meet that it'll come back raw. Hence you're 2 year old card that probably doesn't make a 9.5 grade.

Again...just an opinion

Any truth to this?

I never heard from any reliable source that BGS counts against autos leaving the signature area as long as the auto was still fully on the card. I hear it more and more from collectors though, and I'm curious if BGS has ever stated such.

Biggest myth in BGS grading history.

Let me mention this ONE MORE TIME! The auto CAN:

1. Look ugly
2. Look like a piece of S
3. Look like a 5 year old wrote it
4. Run off the autograph area

AND STILL GET A 10!

The auto CANNOT:

1. Run completely off the card in any way
2. Run completely off a sticker in any way
3. Be faded
4. Have ink spots
5. Have random ink spots anywhere on the card
6. Have streaking

These above will get you a 9 or worse.

GOT IT PEOPLE????

Thanks.
