I highly doubt we can pay 20 Million to 4 players...

I would say there is an 80% chance it gets done during the season, Cabrera is in prime position to get his final big contract and signing him now will get him the best deal possible, his camp will push for a deal.

Scherzer will command at least 20 Million a season which would commit 100 Million to 5 players, they need to fill 20 roster spots with 30 Million.

Tigers payroll is around 130 as we speak.

Or pay a luxury tax. They can spend what they want.

Fielder was a bad signing. Love him, but too much for too long.

I understand that, but if they can trade Scherzer for a top 10 prospect, you take that deal all day.

Well I'm certainly glad you aren't running the team.

Where's the source? Cabrera denied it.

Can't even consider it until we see where the Tigs end up and the role Max played. IMO he is in that small tier of pitchers just below Verlander and Kershaw, and also IMO he would be currently untouchable.

Why do you trade an ace on a team trying to win a World Series? (next year will hold the same expectations)

Still haven't seen a source for this apparent "3-4 year extension".

Because after next season he is a free agent that we won't be able to afford and could bring back some top level prospects in a trade

If we win the WS this year, he's as good as gone, if we don't, they might take a gamble and make one more run with him next year and then let him walk.

If Porcello keeps improving, Scherzer will be dealt next year guarantee and they'll move forward with Verlander, Sanchez, Fister, Porcello, Smyly

So? That's the breaks of being a team with a $160 million payroll, you don't tank the season because you might not resign a guy.

You take the draft pick compensation and move on if you can't get a deal done.

I'll tell you this, if they traded him, no way in the world they are winning a World Series.

First of all, we're not talking about this season, he's under contract through 2014, so it would be next season

And it's not tanking the season when you still have three other Aces on your staff, and if Porcello keeps improving, it would still be the best rotation in the league without Scherzer

Re-signing Scherzer would also mean probably having to give up Jackson and Fister with their contracts coming up soon too

So it's either keep Jackson, Fister, and get a top SS and Catcher, or have none of them and keep Scherzer, easy decision when you already have Verlander and Sanchez

I'd much rather trade him for a top SS and Catcher before the deadline next season than let him walk and get some crappy draft pick compensation

I like Porcello, but he needs to go. It's only a matter of time before he has another meltdown. We already have 1 meltdown we are dealing with. We don't need that for a Starting Pitcher. Cut Porcello, bring up someone else from AAA for cheap who can fill in when needed, give the difference to Scherzer.
