Reason #1029 why your best hitter should hit 2nd.

oh come on now, how many times has tori got on base and cabrera got a big hit/hr to tie or win a game...he got out, it happens..giving up 8 runs to the A's they dont deserve to win even if they left the bases loaded twice now.

Eh.......

You can't win them all, and Miggy homered, so I guess tonight was a wash

I'm okay with it

I'm not sure I follow that thought.

FSD did post some interesting numbers for Hunter tonight. As the #2 hitter since 2012, he leads the AL in hits, XBH, RBI, and one I forgot; probably runs scored. 3rd in batting average. All these as compared to production from #2 in the line-up on all other teams.

I don't dislike Torii, but those stats to me don't show much.. He's hit behind Mike Trout and Austin Jackson, two guys (Trout with a great OBP, and Jackson with a solid OBP) who get on-base, that gives him plenty of chances to drive in runners, due to a lot of chances. He doesn't walk, at all, so that raises his number of hits, and there is no other really consistent starter that always hits 2nd.

Some of them are independent of who hits in front of Torii. Average is a rate, not walking has no impact on average. Yes, that means more hits and therefore more chances at XBH, R, and RBI, but it isn't enough to be significant. Let's assume 600 ABs. Let's assume a typical player in the 2-hole walks 20 more times per year. With a .300 assumed average, that amounts to 6 more hits per year difference, hardly enough to negate the XBH, R, and RBI stats. Also, a 2-hitter shouldn't hypothetically be walking much, especially if the guys are doing their job on getting on base before him. It is more important to put the ball in play and move the runner into scoring position. So that would lead to a lower overall OBP. I see the logical argument you are making here, and it does make sense. However, the difference isn't substantial enough to actualy make a difference in reality.

Avila back in the lineup tonight, let's hope he can keep hitting like he was before he went out again, had some really clutch hits the last month or so

He needs to get rid of that relic mask and go Buster Posey style.

Wow. I turn the game on late and Verlander is still in the first with 40 pitches. Oh boy. Hopefully he finds his stuff soon.

I sure hope they don't start this POS in Game 1 of the playoffs. He sure as hell hasn't earned it this year.

You should slow down and think before you speak about people like that. While verlander is having an off year "for him" that does not make him a pos. As a matter of fact he has donated MILLIONS of dollars to the veterans. My wife works at a VA hopsital and they have an entire wing that he funded.

So say hes having an off season. Not that he is a pos.

He actually is a POS, for the record (and my favorite player).
