Don't need an article to tell me that, just watch one at bat for him and you can tell that something just isn't right. He literally just looks confused at the plate, like he's not sure what he's supposed to be doing up there.

It isn't rocket science. I know hitting a baseball is extremely difficult, but get up there, find a pitch to hit and swing. Either you CAN do that or you CAN'T.

Nick Castellanos today: 2-4 with a double. He's ready, call him up and get Dirks out of here (and Kelly)

I'm on board with both of them getting the boot, but there is almost no chance that Kelly gets let go because of his defensive versatility, he really is an asset as a late inning substitution at just about any position.

Kelly isn't going anywhere. He can go in for almost anybody. Don't mind having him on the bench, but don't like seeing him come off of it as much as he does.

Fine, just get rid of Dirks, then.

No, Jackson and Hunter are obviously everyday players and they want Castellanos and Garcia getting consistant at bats, if either of them are still with the Tigers when Jackson is back it means they got rid of Dirks and they're the everyday LF, with the other still in AAA

That might be worse than almost anything Lamont has done. Infante was out by 20 feet.

no kidding...didn't Brookens take over 3rd this year because of the poor coaching there last year?

And Kelly raises that BA with runners in scoring position!

Benoit got us through the 8th. Think Marlboro Jim will put in Papa Joke for the 9th?

Tuiasosopo is another guy who should play over Dirks. All he does it play well when he has the chance.

Dirks batted .320 last year. He was out a couple of months but it was a good 3/4 season. He is batting .250 which is not great but isnt avila'ish either. I think hes a .280-.300 guy. I think the only way we see dirks go anywhere is in a trade deal for a REAL closer.

He has a .300 OBP, that's completely unacceptable for a corner outfielder who doesn't have much power and not a great defender.

Meanwhile, Castellanos is still raking.

If we got rid of a guy every time he had a bad start to the season we would have lost miggy, verlander, fielder, jackson, peralta, infante and martinez

I wonder if Dirks has any trade value... Probably not.

He definitely has trade value because he could start for quite a few teams in LF, in baseball, anyone who can play a little has trade value

The problem is that his trade value wouldn't be for any major league player, we could definitely get a minor leaguer or two for him

It's different when the player who has a bad start has YEARS of previous high quality play, Dirks, not so much

It also makes a difference when you have potential long time middle of the order type starters at that position in Castellanos and Garcia toiling away in AAA

He doesnt have years of quality play but he certainly has 1 year of quality play behind him. Since that was his rc year, I say he gets at least 2 more months before you start thinking of pulling him.

When you have the future of that position on your AAA team and ready to take over for you, not producing in the first 2.5 months of the season doesn't earn you the right for an additional 2 more months, it gives you a week or two to get your act together or else

And when Tuiososopo is better suited than Dirks to be a spot fill in player once or twice a week, it's not looking all that great for Dirks future with the Tigers.

I have a feeling Tuiososopo will be that spot starter for most of the season while Garcia gets everyday at-bats in Toledo and then comes up and takes Tui's spot for the playoffs.

Honestly, I'd get rid of Kelly before Dirks probably, but given his infield versatility as well, Leyland will never do it
