While Puello got suspended, would still think he's at the top right now until he proves otherwise. Think we throw Herrera in the Cecchini-type group, which is pretty much the top now that guys like TDA, Flores, have graduated.

Top 5 for system position players.

19 year old middle infielder. Smaller guy at 5'10" 150. Has shown some pop this year in A ball. An average BA at .256, but has got on base at a .330 clip.

He has some developing to do, but he has a ton of potential. He was #11 on the Pirates list, so he'll be top 10 with the Mets, top 5 (like xbignick said) for position players.

"Andy Martino ‏@MartinoNYDN 1m

Told that Mets are interested in talking to Marlon Byrd this offseason about returning."

Now THAT would be cool.

Sign him again. Let him have another big year, trade him.

Repeat until we have all baseball's top prospects.

Win World Series.

Byrd has one of the best BA against lefties in the NL. This now gives them 3 of the best hitters in the NL against lefties. Herrera was excess anyway. We'll see how it works out.

This just confirms there will be no Polanco sighting in the postseason

I can't wait to see den Dekker and Lagares side by side in the outfield.

Back to back in the lineup, not so much.

Can probably have Duda stand still in CF and have them on the corners.

you couldn't be more wrong.

Byrd has been great this year for the Mets, and the Pirates need another catcher. Tony Sanchez hasn't been producing like the thought he would. Plus its nice to have a bat with some pop off the bench. Herrera is an ok prospect, good deal here for the Pirates to add a few bats for a mid level guy.

The Pirates are having a great year, and they are gonna make a run at the division title and in the playoffs. Realistically, they are a few pieces away from a World Series team. They need another starting pitcher and another decent bat or two. This wasn't necessarily a move by the Pirates to run for a World Series title this year, but more of a good faith move to show that the tide has turned around here and they will be serious competitors at the top of the NL and even the whole MLB for years to come.

Byrd is batting .285 which ranks 18th. 21 HR's, 26 2B's, 5 3B's, 71 RBI's
and a slugging pct. that ranks 6th. These stats are nowhere close to your quality appraisal of Byrd's season.

Herrera was in the futures game and has alot of upside. He will be a top 5 prospect in the Mets organization. In other words hes better than what you've got.

Oh and Go Braves!

Herrera had no future with the Pirates in my opinion, Hanson is more than likely the second baseman of the future. Many writers do not see his defense (Hanson) holding up at SS.

I think it's a good move for Pitt. They just made their team stronger for down the strech.

Only the mets could pull this off

Mets trade Marlon Byrd on Marlon Byrd T-shirt night

Reports are saying that the PTBNL is going to be someone good, not just a scrub that PTBNL usually are. I'm excited to see who it's going to be.

Byrd was an all star in 2010 and one of the better hitters in the NL this year. He had off 2011 and 12 years but there's a reason for that. How about I throw a 90+ mph pitch at your face and have it hit you right under your eye, it might take a year or two to come back to full strength.

It definitely won't be any of the Pirates' top prospects.

Well, obviously it won't be Jameson Taillon or Gregory Polanco, but it can still be someone who develops into a serviceable player.
