I know he is listed at 5'10, but I've met him in person and his actual size is closer to 5'6.

On a side note, I've also met Nomar Garciaparra in person. He is listed at 6'ft and the guy came to my shoulders. Maybe 5'8 tops.

Really? That's pretty neat.

I wonder how tall Jose Altuve really is if he's listed at, what? 5'5"?

25 year old former 1st round pick who just made his debut. Nothing the Pirates can't live without. Nothing the Mets will ride to a World Series.

"Ouch."

He doesnt blow, hes a very good RP prospect.

Him and Herrera are both WAY more valuable than Buck or Byrd. Terrible deal for the Pirates if thise goes through.

Oh the "Ouch" was actually in context haha, Huntington was on our local radio station and stated that Pirates fans are gonna say "Ouch" when they find out the ptbnl.

Oh, I know haha. Just don't think many Pirates fans will be saying "ouch." For the production they're getting right now with the chance to win a World Series, I think they'd be fine without him.

I really like this deal for the Mets, though. Any bullpen helps is good bullpen help, and the Mets need bullpen help more than anyone.

I did like Black, but a little relieved that it was him and not someone that could be a major difference maker in the future. I knew it wouldn't be Taillon, Hansen, or Polanco, but Huntington's interview last night made me a little weary.

I wouldn't call it terrible. I give credit to Huntington for this deal, we've lost for 20 straight years and being able to make a move like this at this point in a season is unseen territory for this franchise.

From the Mets standpoint it makes complete sense, they cashed in and got decent prospects for players they were not going to retain next year. (Usually a move the Pirates make) lol.

Hey personally I would have taken Dilson for Byrd and Buck straight up. This Vic Black guy is just a cherry on top.

Terrible trade still, Byrd was out of baseball last year.

Doesnt mean I dont know why the Pirates did it, but yikes. Black for those two mighta been fair.

Good for the Mets though.

I disagree. This wasn't a terrible trade for the Pirates. Moving a mid level prospect who doesn't have much of a future with the big league team for two guys that can potentially add some offense to a team in the hunt for a playoff birth is a good move on the Pirates part. The trade is also good for the Mets, getting rid of two guys that might not be with the club in a few months for a decent prospect and a hard throwing reliever. No way this is a terrible trade for the Pirates.

Mets traded away Melvin Mora to the Orioles to "rent" Mike Bordick for the remainder of the 2000 season (and world series) after Rey Ordonez got hurt.

By comparison, this move is genius for the Pirates.

Yea I'd rather trot out Felix Pie/Garret Jones in the OF with Marte out, because at least that would've let Herrera finish out Low-A as a member of the West Virginia Power during the pennant chase.

Eh sure it is. Two relatively project-able prospects (one is major league ready) for 6 weeks

How can you say a very good RP doesnt have much of a future with the Pirates? Doesnt even make sense. Always room for quality arms.

How can you say a kid who isnt even 20 yet doesnt have a future for the Pirates?

Doesnt make sense for you to write off a 19 year old kid in A and a RP.

Its a short sighted traded for the Pirates, they are trying to win but they gave up too much.

Simple as that.

Shoulda just called up Polanco.

I dunno if its sarcasm, but why not call up Polanco? Why did they give up TWO prospects for Byrd?

I am all for teams going for it, but for Marlon Byrd? Come on.

Well first off I didn't say black doesn't have much of a future with the Pirates, I was talking about Herrera. Mercer plays a good short stop and his bat has really come around this season, he can also play second. Walker will be around for awhile too, so when Hanson is ready he will have to out play one of those guys for a spot. Pirates production from RF this year has been terrible, Byrd has been the best hitter for the mets this year, he is top 10 in home runs and RBIs, and is having a great season. Pirates lose a lot of 1 and 2 run games, so that extra pop in the lineup, or in Buck's case off the bench, can really make a difference late in the season, especially playing teams like St. Louis and Cincy.

Calling up Polanco, who has only been in AA for about a month and throwing him into the starting lineup in the heat of a pennant race would be the worst thing the Pirates could possibly do. That kind of pressure could ruin a guy's confidence and hinder his development greatly. It has happened before and will undoubtedly happen again.
Although I respect your opinion, saying this is a "terrible" trade for the Pirates is just not a valid assumption.

Good trade by the Bucs. They needed a power bat from the right side for their playoff run.
