Default I Hate it When Sellers Don't Counter Offers

*CONTEST ENDED*

I know this has been discussed ad nauseum here, but I'm annoyed. I put three respectable bids in on a '51 Mays PSA 6 and each one just got flat declined. I was a little low, but not insultingly so... came within $250 of BIN price.

Don't put a Best Offer Option if you aren't willing to negotiate. I mean, come down $50 if you want, but do something. I know sellers can do what they want and it is his card.... yada yada... but it just seems dumb to me.

Sorry, useless and pointless thread.

In order to make it less of a huge waste of time for anyone with the misfortune of clicking on this thread I will now give away this baseball card:

In order to qualify you must simply respond to this post with your opinion on the matter.

At 12:33 pm Eastern I will pick a random name and then mail them the aforementioned baseball card.

I hate expired/declined offers...I mean, there really is no point to a BO if you're going to decline or let offers expire.

Oh, and oh my dayum, I want that Bauer.

I would actually take the complaint a step further: I think it's a bummer when people don't respond to counter offers.

I usually counter but if the buyer sent a low offer, the counter is usually .01 less than the BIN.

I guess the 250 from the buy it now price depends on his price. If he had it jacked up, then he should respond. If he had it close to what they are selling for, I wouldn't respond getting an offer that low, especially if the last one was 250 away, that meant the first two were really low. Can you link the auction?

I do agree. In fact when I sell on ebay I always counter offer with the buyer. If they aren't willing to negotiate at certain price point, then they are best to use the auto-decline and auto-accept features. Frustrating situation, I can honestly say I know what it's like.

Nothing is worse than making a fair offer(what they have been selling for online) and then to have them counter offer $1 less than the buy it now price. I would rather them not counter at all haha

I counter unless it's a crazy lowball price and the buyer has single digit feedback. That would be the only time I don't counter. The seller must not be in a hurry to sell!

I hate as a seller when a buyer low balls you so you counter then you get no response. It just shows how all they wanted to do was low ball.

I hate when your offer is countered and you immediately respond, only then to see your new offer expire.

There should be a counter offer by the seller but unfortunately the prospective buyer is at the mercy of the seller. Chances are if the seller thinks the offer is way too low they probably take it as some sort of insult and don't counter. It's a crap shoot.

I hate when the offer is declined and not countered, for both ebay and COMC.

I totally agree, its very annoying, and the only thing that's worse is when they do counter but with either the BIN price barely lower. then there's one time I got countered higher then the BIN, I was like WTF didn't even know that was possible, lol.

I have a few philosophies on BIN or BO. First of all, it allows me to adjust the price of a card based on the market.

For example, say I have a RC of Player X for $10 and maybe it's going for $7.50 right now. Player X gets recalled and hits 3 homeruns in 2 days. Now is not the time to offer me $5 for the card. It's probably worth $12 now.

Take the same card and Player X gets recalled and breaks his leg. Now is the time to offer me $4 for the card.

Also, in the past, I have made the mistake of using BIN or BO when my card was already priced at market value hoping for multiple item purchases. Instead, I get lowball offers and don't bother to respond.

I had one today. I'm asking $20 or BO. A bit high for the card. I counter at $12.95, the going rate for the card. He counters at $12.05. I just declined. When you start getting ridiculous with your pennies, I don't want to bother.

As a Seller if your too far from what I would like I just decline no counter.. I always send counters to buyer to constantly have them expire... Buyers are much more annoying then sellers.

I will counter unless it is obviously a lowball offer. I don't think I've ever let an offer go more than 8 hours without responding.

You probably were under their auto-decline amount. I thought ebay used to have an option of including a note with an auto-decline. However, when I recently looked for that option, I couldn't find it. While not necessary, it would be nice to have.

It's rude I've never understood it. There's zero reason to ignore an offer both as a buyer and seller.

Does anybody actually get declined offers as a seller? I honestly can't remember a time where I sent a counter as a seller and had the buyer decline it so I can move on. They always just let them sit and expire. I feel like I'm the only person who actually declines an offer when I'm moving on as a buyer.

Agreed. It's an interesting study in behavioral economics. What's worth more for the seller for a hypothetical $1000 card:

100% chance of $750 for a card immediately;
50% chance of an accepted counter at $875;
10% chance of a full price sale at $1000?

It all depends on how the seller values his cards, and whether or not said seller needs the cash.

(BTW, thanks for the contest)

While I generally agree with you, I think it depends on how long the card has been out there too.

I stopped countering Buyers after the 20th time in a row they (buyers) let my counteroffer expire. I no longer really bother with counter offers. Thousands of lowballers who want everything for an absolute steal and I'm tired of wasting my time on them.

Example-I list a card that sells for $50 consistently. I list it $75-$80 obo. I receive offers of $25. I counter with $45. Buyer never replies and lets the offer expire.
