2012 SP Signature Edition Hot List #HOT3-'85 Roger Clemens/Eric Davis Bret Saberhagen 06/20 (Love this card!)

Thanks to geor952 for the following insert. I have seen autographed versions make their way to eBay the last week. Interestingly, on that card they misspelled Saberhagen, "Sabherhagen", on both the front and back.

Nice to see the 10s. When I see them, I can't help but think there are really only 2 grades. 10, or not.

Saberhagen is in another insert set in Update also - Postseason Heroes. A nice card; not the sharpest picture on a card ever, but a good night shot. There is also a Chrome version of it in Update Chrome. No auto or relic variants though.

Glad I could add to a sweet collection.

By the way I love that triple auto! All three guys have a nice signature.

I absolutely relate to this. I collect Orel Hershiser who is essentially the exact same player as Sabs. I bet he and Hershiser are in nearly all the same sets.

Some of this 80's odd ball stuff is impossible to find. Some of it I have never even seen and some there are only rumors that it even exists.

I am going to need to scan it one day because yours looks awesome scanned and mine is nearly identical to yours at this point.

Thanks for the notes guys. You should make a Hershiser thread jstbuch. I never thought about it, but I guess their careers were a lot alike. They played the same time, both World Series stars, were dominate in the same period, and both are fan favorites. Plus it might be nice to be not be the only one posting cards worth under a quarter...lol.

I guess it's been a couple months since my last posting. Still pick up a few cards here and there, and not just autos as my last couple postings my imply. It's cool Sabes is in 2013 Panini America's Pastime with a bunch of autographs, but kind of annoying also. They, the card manufacters, basically stopped making Sabes for 10 years, and then when I start collecting him, they release a ton of 1/1s and low numbered cards.

2013 Panini America's Pastime Superstar Scripts #KC Bret Saberhagen/Frank White Holosilver 1/5

Still missing the /49 and /99 to complete the set, but I will have no problem picking them up. Glad I knocked out the low numbered ones, including my first Sabes 1/1. It is a little lame that you can't tell the card apart from the front. I am a Frank White fan as well. Great 80s player, and he was the Royals AA coach here a few years ago.

Clear Skies,
Mark

Wow! Those books are crazy! I'm generally not a fan of book cards (pain in the rear to store) but those look nice. Your Sabes collection is really nice, keep updates coming!

Great collection! I see PSA clearly grades OPC cards on a curve. With the rough edges on those, I doubt any OPC card before 1991 truly qualifies as a 10.

Thanks for your note. I don't see it as a grading curve as they should be that way. I would more question ones you find with completely smooth sides.

A better debate I imagine is Donruss Factory set cards were they don't get a lower grade for factory set corners, which are kind of bent back a little.

Upgraded the 1984 Fleer Update and 1991 Topps Desert Shield, two cards I guess you could call Saberhagen keys.

Still slowly picking up a Saberhagen here and there. Nice to see Saberhagen with a bunch of autographs and inserts in 2014 and 2015. (Sorry about that breakers, but your loss is appreciated. )

More auto 84s...

Also have the unsigned 5/5 version also (but only cause it was cheap). Autos are always cool.

The ugliest Saberhagen card of all time, at least comes autographed.../49's not scanned, missed the 1/1, and not too upset...lol.

Immaculate delivered with Saberhagen this year, my regrets to the breakers, but it is appreciated.

Have not seen the 1/1 of this card yet...but I do want it. I have a second /10.

1990 Royals Yearbook, Sabes on the cover, auto, PSA/DNA

Have been seriously looking for a nice example of this card for years....really.

Every box panel I have found for these have heavy creases, and is scuffed, this one, basically unscuffed, only has light creases on the top. Interestingly, when the panel was cut, only the Saberhagen card was cut correctly, so I am not sure why it was subbed.

And the 1990 Windwalkers Team Disc...cause it is kind of funny. The set is like a paper mobile, with a big round team card in the middle of a bunch of disc. The AL All-Star players that year. I am guessing everyone was told to wear their away jersey for the team shot.....everyone but Saberhagen.

Thanks for the comment Skips. Always nice to meet fellow Royals fans. Looking forward to a good 2015 season. (I think I have put game 7 behind me.)

Happy collecting everyone,
Mark
