No, they beat the worst bullpen in the AL.

Hit Scherzer (Cy Young 2013) pretty well last night with a Pedroia lazer just foul, and DID beat Verlander with a HR, but either way you look at it a series win is the ultimate goal and that they got!!

Overall the Red Sox pitching STAFF was better and that makes me proud to be a Sox fan today!

If we are using "magic" and "destiny" and "predetermined Jesus outcomes" as a measurement of who will win (all bologna, btw), I think the Cardinals beating the best pitcher in all of baseball twice (not his bullpen) overtakes killing two throwaway bullpen pieces.

The team with the best record from the AL versus the team with the best record from the NL in the World Series. Definitely always nice to see that and not see the second wild card team make it to the World Series because they got hot at the right time. These were the best two teams in the MLB all season and they both deserve to be here. I hope it goes 7 games and there are no blow outs.

Getting Craig back and his .450 average with RISP is a big boost. Also interested to see what the Red Sox do at 1B when the series goes back to the STL.Will Napoli catch and Ortiz play 1B?Seems like a disadvantage to me if Ortiz has to play 1B.Better dust off all the cobwebs off that glove. Also, Red Sox likely won't feast on the Cardinals bullpen like they did off the Tigers.I see a long series either way.

Congratulations Red Sox, Cardinal's & both of you're fan base!
As much as I hate Boston & 99% of their fans I am pulling for them but, I do think STL will take it in 6. If Boston can get to the Cards Bull Pen they have a good shot @ making it a series, STL appears to be clicking on all cylinders though. Good Luck to both teams

Not a lot of analysis to do on this series. Most pitchers haven't faced any hitters, or very few hitters. Cardinals hitters have 6 career at bats vs Lester. Sox 45 vs Wainwright, but most are Drew and Ross. None vs Wacha or Kelly.
Cardinals have 9 at bats vs Lackey. None vs Buchholz. 34 vs Peavy. You get the idea.

I like Lackey starting game 2 at home - his splits are much better at home.

Both teams have good SP and very good bullpens. Sox have a slight edge on offense, though with Craig back, Cardinals don't lose much having to use a DH.

It will be interesting to see how much Molina effects the Sox running game. He was excellent this year - 43% I think - throwing out runners. Sox like to be aggressive on the bases and also stole 135 bases this year, and a bunch already in the playoffs.

Cards and Sox have two of the postseason players ever in Ortiz and Beltran

Having home field may wind up to be the difference. Id love another Sox sweep - just so they'd have 12 straight WS wins - but that's extremely unlikely.

I think it may go 7 - but I'm gonna say Sox win in 6 games, finally getting to celebrate a WS title at Fenway.

I will be at game 1 - apparently it's gonna be frigid - low 40's to start

Good luck Cardinals fans - should be an awesome series, and on a side note I just found out from my rather well off friend who is a huge Cardinals fan, I may be going to games 3-4 as well

Pedroia hit a ton of "laser-shot" fouls in the ALCS. That's called a strike, not hitting well.

I think it will be Cards in 6 or 7 games, winning once on the road but all at home. I just hope none of them turn on an umpire call with the fuzzy replay sometimes in use this year.

No one other than VMart and Bogaerts hit well in the ALCS

Just got out of colon surgery (I did alright, find out next week if I've got cancer, because having my team in the World Series CLEARLY wasn't stressful enough this week), so I'm hoping the Cards win tonight so I don't have to shove my pride up my butt, too.

Good luck Sox fans. Go Cards.

This is exactly where I see this series going.

This series will be worse than the one back in 2004, and that series was just awful. The only reason that series has any significance is because of some supposed curse that was broken.

The clear two best teams in baseball, who won the same amount of games playing in the two hardest divisions in baseball, playing each other is dull and boring? I guess you hate baseball, then.

Oh I'm sorry, if I wanted to see the same 6 teams in the World Series every year they should just get rid of every team except for the Yankees, Red Sox, Cardinals, and the Tigers, Rangers and Giants as of the last couple years. And just because the had the best records in baseball doesn't mean those teams aren't boring.

I had no expectations from my club lol. I would have rather seen the A's or even the Rays in the AL and the Pirates or Braves, or hell even the Dodgers as the two teams in there. We've seen this song and dance before.

Strange but true: Red Sox skipper John Farrell used to babysit Matt Holliday | MLB.com

Well I just hope it's a good game, but not so good that my friend who's a big Cards fan can't pay a bit of attention at trivia tonight :P
