Default Topeka resident amasses large baseball card collection

I guess this is news in Kansas, but it's still kind of cool to read about someone's collection.

“I have a whole set of the 1986 World Series made by Fleer,” he said.

Man. Doesn't take much to get your name out there in Kansas, huh.

Take a good look at the picture with him in it. See if you still want to trash this story after looking closely.

I'd assume some case breakers of Draft have more cards then him. I opened a 06 case recently and have like 1500 base cards just lying in a box that I am too lazy to take to the dumpster.

Are you implying he's a 40 year old cellar dwelling virgin who warrants empathy?

If so, you're probably right.

If he came on here he'd be pretty blown away then. Lol!

Doesn't take much to be big in Kansas

Being a special education teacher I think I have an idea where he is going. The gentleman has a particular look to his features, plus, the surroundings look similar to that of a group home. Also, look at the other people in the picture.

I emailed the author to see if there is more to the story. If this is something a little more special then I think it would be nice to try to do something for Mr. Barrett.

Not sure if the author would admit anything though.

I think it would be even worse if the author wrote back and replied 'I don't know what the hell you're talking about...this is a normal guy I met at a Jayhawks game."

*that ackward silence*

One man's trash is another man's treasure. I'm glad he gets a lot of enjoyment out of his collection.

the most amazing thing about this story is that it wasn't posted on the onion.

Wow. You guys are harsh.

The author don't say anything about his being collection being extraordinary, or valuable, or having super rare cards. It's just a simple article about a guy who has enjoyed collecting baseball cards all his life.

I am so confused, does the writer just not have an idea of what a large collection is...I have like 40,000 cards myself and few of the them are junk era cards.

^That would be great. I bust boxes from time to time and often have many base singles left over that I'm not sure what to do with. If it can find a nice home with someone like Mr. Barret I'd be happy to donate.
