Wow, was kinda hoping he would go home to Seattle. Would've been great seeing a rotation with Felix, Iwakuma, and Lincecum.

That's impressive that he's getting an average of 17.5M after his performance the past two years..

17M per for mid-back or the rotation starter is a massive overpayment. He's a shell of what he used to be.

The second half of this season he actually pitched really well. The season and a half before that however he was terrible. Still seems like a few million/yr too much though.

very cool, everyone was hoping to get him back. People just look at the overall stats and say how he struggled but don't realize that most of the innings he pitched he dominated. His biggest problem is he gets multi-run innings when people are on base. Most of the starts he'd be Cy Young Timmy stuff for 5 of the 6 innings but 1 inning can just struggle and put up a couple runs thus making the ERA look bigger than what people actually see when he pitches

2011: 2.74 ERA, 217 innings, 220 strikeouts, 86 walks, 176 hits, 66 runs

2013: 4.37 ERA, 197 innings, 193 strikeouts, 76 walks, 184 hits, 96 runs

Just about all of his stats last year were right in line with his stats from when he had a sub 3 ERA. Only difference was more of the runners that got on base ended up scoring

His stats this past year are very comparable to guys like Verlander, Lance, Lynn, C.J. Wilson, Jon Lester, etc

He actually looked really good for the most part. Even in most of his bad outings he would pitch great then fall apart for 1 inning. Seems like when he can't get ahead in the count he gets in a lot of trouble and leaves balls up and over. When he gets ahead he puts guys away like he used to. Seems like he realizes how important location an getting ahead are for him now and put it to work Althea second half of this season. And the no hitter he threw this season gave him a nice confidence boost that he really needed. Looking forward to having him around for another two years and hope he can keep his fastball down and on the corners.

Justifying bringing the band back together that was a steaming pile of mediocrity?

You must still see lincecum and the rest of the mediocre team sweeping your (less than mediocre?) team when you close your eyes at night...

Nope, I don't. I know my team still has a championship contender taking the field next year, don't think the Giants fans can say that.

We might not make the playoffs, but we still beat your "championship contender" with a mediocre team. Can't take away the fact what happened to Verlander game 1.

Why not? We won 2 out of 3 years. How much more of a championship team could you ask for? I can live with a bad year after that.

I didn't call the 2012 team mediocre, can you read?

the 2013 was, and bringing everyone back does nothing to improve your team, especially when that means everyone is a year older.

Other then injury replacements, how different was the 2013 team from 2012?

You are correct. Injuries killed the Giants this season.

I know a guy in Seattle who went to the same high school as him. For the most part he seems like a pretty cool guy. The kind of guy you'd have a drink with if you had the chance.
Or in his case, maybe share a joint or some vapors with.

Good news. I think it's a bit much dollar wise, but not a bad move for the team/franchise or Timmy

No kidding! That was my thought: That's a lot of coin for a bullpen arm.

But as a Dodger fan, go ahead and blow your wad on used-up arms. The Giants can't hit their way out of a wet paper bag but they waste money on so-so pitching? Sounds good to me! We get Wilson for $1MM and they get The Freak for $35MM? In the immortal words of our generations finest thespian, Mr. Charlie Sheen: "Duh. Winning."

Like this move for both sides on the way they got together on it. Gives him a chance to re-ignite value for an okay longer-term deal, and gives them the chance to accrue value from him if he does get back to his prime numbers without a long-term commitment for a marketable asset that's been good for them in the past. I don't like the cost though, the money per is too much, around 5M less or so per a year would have been optimal, but it's Brian Sabean...
