Default The Rolling Who's Who in Retail EEE thread Checklist Inside

I thought it would be helpful if we put together a master list of all the player that we have pulled in EEE blasters this year. I am not looking for which cards you pulled from hobby. The back of the pack should tell you exactly what you can pull.

Huh?

It's pretty clear that certain players are designated for hobby vs. retail. That's not on the back of the pack.

If the back of the pack says that you can pull 200 different autographs, then you better be able to pull 200 different autographs.

Yeah, but the boxes also state two autographs while every box has three autographs, a jersey card, a couple of numbered cards, and apparently an unusually good chance for a base variation. That's pretty good for six packs of retail. Better tradeoff than what you normally have to tolerate for something you can pick up at Target in the middle of the night.

Not to crap on what this thread is trying to do, of course. I think a lot of people are justifiably assuming these are superior to hobby right now, and that's probably not entirely the case. Probably a better way of looking at it is that if you're going to spend $30 on Extra Edition, retail is unquestionably the way to go. Much more than that and the checklist suggests you may still be better off with hobby. Still a fun break, though.

I suspect that you're not going to pull 200 different autographs. As I wrote in a similar thread, Panini is "pack searching".

Everyone wants to bag on Topps, present company included -- and obviously, I've never been one to shy away for calling Leaf out...

...but this practice as described above -- putting the "good stuff" in hobby and leaving the lousy players for retail... it's akin to pack searching.

Hear me out.

When one buys a pack of cards, one thinks that they have a fair shot of pulling any autograph. Obviously, some are printed in higher #s than others, but I would think that if I'm getting 2-3 autos per $30 retail blaster of Elite, then I'm got a good shot of getting anyone on the checklist. To hear that Elite "bottom-loads" the retail product so that there are a ton of autographs, but of less desirable players -- it seems as though Panini is searching the packs at the factory and taking out the good ones. As a Phillies fan looking for Maikel Franco, little Jimmy in Delaware County is never going to pull Franco from a retail pack of Elite.

And that sucks.

This is really lousy. I'm glad I didn't spend more than the two blasters to find this out.

I agree completely, while I think it's good that they are finally delivering some sort of value in one of their retail products, they clearly have kept the Top Pick and better prospect autos out, or to a very small number. I pulled Meadows and Polanco from my 2 hobby boxes, my two blasters didn't yield any of the bigger names. I've seen some big name nonauto die cuts, but no autos of Bryant, Frazier, etc. I did pull a Profar Flashback auto from one blaster of 2011 EEE, but I think that was the bigger card they put in retail and I doubt there were many others pulled from retail. The low numbered autos are cool, and a thing to remember I guess is that a few of these common autos could, in fact, pan out to be decent pros. That being said, this product is aimed at prospectors, I don't feel like it is geared toward the kid next door.

No, it's not aimed at the kid next door; neither is BDP, but both are oddly sold in retail.

I would rather have lousy odds at an auto, or one auto per box, given a fair shot at the entire print run, rather than bottom loaded product. Didn't Panini realize this was going to get out?

That being said, in 3 years, people could be hunting for these blasters for the low end prospect who's in it, but . . .

Forgive me if it was posted somewhere and I totally missed it but is there proof that Panini leaves out autos of certain players in retail boxes?

Are people going off of what they think or does Panini actually admit that some autos are hobby only?

again, if this was stated in another thread and I missed it, my bad

That's the purpose of this (and other) threads. To find out who's pulled what out of blasters. No, Panini has not come out and said that "THERE ARE NO KRIS BRYANT AUTOS IN RETAIL". Chances are, there are a minimal amount of all "hot" cards in retail but the majority are bottom loaded. Look at the autos in this small sample and see how many duplicates there are. Does it prove anything dispositively? No. But it certainly raises an eyebrow.

Personally, I was just happy to pull three scrub autos out of my retail box since my hobby box was so crappy - (six autos with the best one being a Ryan McMahon numbered to 800-something). I think all retail has always been a "lesser-hit" product although I have pulled some decent cards through the years. Retail Bowman Platinum comes to mind - I've pulled a ton of autos out of blasters including Sano a couple of years ago and Maikel Franco this year. Bowman seldom puts great autos into retail (along with the retail-only autos). But, I did pull a Bryce Harper Lucky Redemption auto out of retail last year - I guess the hits are there but are just super-rare....

So some guys are hobby exclusive. What's the problem with that? This happens in football with contenders. Am I missing something?

I have an email out to Hackler to ask if this is true.

That just tells me that there are more than 200 autos in elite extra edition.

There are more than 200 if you count the insert autos (Buxton, etc.).

I know it's tempting to think there could be a false advertisement case here, but nothing can be proven.
