Question The Best General Manager In Baseball?

If you vote other, please post who you pick.

There are a few names that I did not list, that are sure to get some votes. My criteria was a combination of a few factors, not just playoff success. Some GM's spend money, some draft well and some trade well but few build with long term results. This is not a poll to vote for your favorite team's GM. This is a poll to see who is thought of highly as a great GM.

OTHER VOTERS: Please post your vote!

I voted other but for me it's a toss up between Alderson and Beane.

Voted Friedman, but will give an honorable mention to Ben Cherington. Guy has done nothing but good things since ownership made the decision to cut ties with their bad decisions. He also wanted Farrell from the get go, but ownership overruled and brought in Bobby V.

Brilliant acquisitions in the offseason between 2012-2013, and dumping Josh Beckett and Carl Crawford's contracts on LA (and getting prospects!) might be the best trade I have ever seen in my lifetime.

I can't really speak for anyone else because I don't follow other teams much, but Sandy Alderson has done a phenomenal job replenishing the Mets farm system. They used to be bottom of the barrell, now they have a handful of young, high potential prospects (multiple on the Top 100 list). He's made some very smart trades (Beltran for Wheeler, Byrd/Buck for Herrera, Dickey for d'Arnaud/Syndergaard, etc...).

Without Dave Dombrowski and John Farrell listed as choices this thread is a fail. How can they not be listed over many of the names listed?

I am not up on the names of all GMs, but whatever GM runs the Cardinals gets my vote. They develop talent, pay the correct amount of money to players based on their production/health, and let others go because of price/health even if it is a tough decision to do so. They remain relevant every year regardless what the rest of the league/division does.

There is an option for other. What is your vote? Also, is John Farrell a GM? I had to make some choices as who was listed, being there are only 10 slots.

I see that as well and he has done a great job during that time. He seems to be in the lead overall and probably should have been listed on second thought.

Sorry, forgot John Mozeliak on my omitted list. Walt Jocketty hasn't done much since he left the Cards in 2007.

I'd say Friedman with the money he has to work with.

Bigger market I would have to say Cherington has done a phenomenal job getting out of the mess Theo created (with help from the Dodgers) and winning a WS while keeping the farm system as one of baseballs best.

In general I'd say all GMs get too much credit/blame really. There's a whole team of front office people who contribute, etc.
