Default "Out of the mouths of babes" - Funny Story

So my son is 8, and my daughter is 10. my son is just starting to show some interest in sports cards, my daughter has never shown any.
I was at TwinsFest this weekend, and picked up a 1989 Donruss Baseball wax box for $5. I thought this will be a fun box for me and my son to open.

So we sit down to open it together, he gets 18 packs, I get 18. I promise him, if we only get one Griffey that he can have it.
I took like the top 9 1989 Donruss cards out of my PC and set them up on the table so he could know what good cards to look for. I told him about Griffey Jr., Craig Biggio, Randy Johnson, and Curt Schilling being the best rookie cards.

We started ripping. My son asked my daughter if she wanted to open a couple packs, she said sure. The three of us had a great time, we pulled all the Minnesota Twins out, my son made piles of the MVP cards and Diamond Kings. We set the puzzle pieces aside and plan on doing the Warren Spahn puzzle together. We all got very excited when we also pulled:
2 - Griffey Jrs.
4 - Curt Schillings
2 - Craig Biggio's
1 - Randy Johnson
1 - John Smoltz
Among many other stars and RC's.

So the funny part, that made me laugh outloud, was what my daughter said after her first experience opening packs:

"Daddy, now I can see why you like opening Baseball Card packs, it's kind of like gambling"
- Emily, 10 years old

How is it that your 10 year old daughter is aware of what 90% of collectors are in denial of?

Yes, but I can already tell, I need to be careful and steer him more towards buying singles, he seems to be enjoying the gamble a little too much.

I'm not one for 'liking' posts, but I'd like this if I could.

Seems you're raising at least one smart kid there, OP!

Thanks, my wife got her into Parks and Recreation, she finished the entire series on Netflix in about a month, I should pick her up a box of that, I bet she would be in Heaven. Maybe Easter presents.

I'm glad some people are enjoying the story, it was one of those unplanned moments that turned out to be a great memory.

I questioned myself on that also, I was worried it was sounding like I was calling my 10 year old daughter a "babe" , I googled the saying, and there are different versions of the quote. But one of the original quotes is from Psalms 8:2 "Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings hast thou ordained strength". - Go figure
