Default Some specifics on 2010 Topps Allen & Ginter baseball cards

Some specifics on 2010 Topps Allen & Ginter baseball cards
June 28, 2010, 12:17 pm

We’re a couple days away from the official Allen & Ginter release date, but here are some basics about the set…

Yes, Stephen Strasburg appears in the set — as a mini card only (card No. 401; presumed to be an SP) and as an autograph redemption.

The SPs in the set are card Nos. 301-350.

There are no autograph or Relic “groups” noted on boxes or packs this year.

Autographs are found one in every 40 packs, while Relics are 1:11. With no groups you can still presume that signed cards like Albert Pujols and Ryan Howard will be tougher pulls than the likes of Ross Ohlendorf and Clayton Kershaw. It’s simple economics based on the athletes’ costs for Topps to obtain their autographs.

Among the interesting inclusions on the autograph and Relic lists are Marvin Miller, who does not appear in the base set. Others of note on the autograph list include Jason Heyward, Evan Longoria, Alexei Ramirez, Tommy Hanson, David Blaine, Jordin Sparks, Regis Philbin, Sig Hansen, Shawn Johnson, Summer Sanders, Tony Hawk, Anne Donovan and Stuart Scott.

It’s interesting to note that David Wright has two mini framed Relics in Ginter — no other subject does.

See more after the jump …

Other odds include:

SP: 1:2

Highlight sketches: 1:10

Mini SP: 1:13

Mini A&G back: 1:5

Mini A&G back SP: 1:65

Black-bordered mini: 1:10

Black-bordered mini SP: 1:130

Mini no-number: 1:140

Mini Bazooka: 1:280

Mini Wood: 1:3,542

The toughest of the other mini insert cards are the Creatures of Legend, Myth and Joy at 1:288

Rip Cards are 1:285

Printing plates: 1:799

Framed cloth: 1:365

Cut autographs: 1:110,000

Monsters of the Mseozoic redemptions are 1:174,000, while Framed DNA Relics are 1:200,000 and the book cards are 1:127,825

The Rip Mini cards are Nos. 351-400 and include:

Cole Hamels
Billy Butler
Daisuke Matsuzaka
Stephen Drew
Ryan Braun
Mark Teixeira
Chipper Jones
Justin Morneau
Adrian Gonzalez
Dustin Pedroia
Miguel Cabrera
Carlos Beltran
Lance Berkman
Kevin Kouzmanoff
A.J. Burnett
Tim Lincecum
Francisco Rodriguez
Zack Greinke
Andre Ethier
Hideki Matsui
Alexei Ramirez
Grady Sizemore
Joe Mauer
Adam Lind
Kurt Suzuki
Rick Porcello
Felix Hernandez
Albert Pujols
Adam Dunn
Brandon Webb
Pablo Sandoval
Chris Young
Tommy Hanson
Adam Jones
Joe Nathan
Andy Pettitte
Gordon Beckham
Alfonso Soriano
Hanley Ramirez
Torii Hunter
Matt Garza
Johnny Cueto
Prince Fielder
Andrew McCutchen
Ken Griffey Jr.
Ryan Howard
Todd Helton
Kosuke Fukudome
Roy Halladay
Matt Kemp

The box-toppers also have some steep odds for autographed and Relic versions. The N43 autographs are 1:355 boxes, while the Relics are 1:213. The M43 autos are 1:2,130 boxes, while the Cabinet Relics are 1:5,326 boxes.

The final cut autograph checklist includes:

Barack Obama
Martin Luther King Jr.
John Sherman
Thomas Jefferson
Gerald R. Ford
James Madison
Franklin Pierce
Warren G. Harding
James Garfield
Ronald Reagan
Hillary Rodham Clinton
Henry Morgenthau Jr.
Benjamin Franklin Tilley
James Earle Fraser
Hamilton Fish
William Mahone
John Kingman
Joseph Mauborgne
Murray Maxwell
Sherman Miles

That strasburg will be expensive.

Pretty lame they could not get a base card of him. IMO

But it will help it sell...

Thanks for the info, very nice...does anyone have a good estimate of how much of A&G is produced, some of those odds are crazy.

based on those odds, you get about 7 autos and 22 jerseys, 1 rip card. which is 30 hits, you should get 36 hits per case, plates and cuts are not 1 per case either. wonder what the other six hits should be

Should be an interesting collection. This will either skyrocket or be a dud.

I can just imagine the price of a Strasburg NNO.

--

I probably will focus on singles from this set for my Red Sox PC. Somehow A&G never really did it for me. I don't like seeing Greek Gods mixed in with baseball cards & Skateboarder autographs. To me it is a mess of confusion. I do like the base card design from the Box Busters Beckett video though. I am glad Topps is slowly doing away with black border cards.

I'm just glad BO wouldn't let me ship to a different address other than my PayPal address last night... Or I'd be opening a couple boxes of duds more than likely, with odds like that

I have busted 7 of my 25 cases, and ZERO Strasburg anything
maybe they packaged him in 2nd/3rd wave (look at stamp number/letter sequence in bottom of boxes), so I may not have a chance
still don't know why they had time for mini but not a base

back to the break...
not doing too god, and not too thrilled....
The 1 Stras listed on ebay does not appear real, as it is the same pic from Beckett & he won't respond to messages....

small recap......
7 cases...

SALTIEST SAILORS MINIs: 2 (#4 & #8)
CREATURES of LEGEND, MYTH, JOY: 7
CELESTIAL STRAS: 8
BAZOOKAS: 4 (should be 7) <Bumgarner best>
NNO MINIs: 15

PRINT PLATE: 1 GABY SANCHEZ
SILKS: 5 <Leake only notable>
RIP CARDS: 7 (all crud except maybe Rasmus & Zimmerman)
AUTOS: 47 (should be 50-51) (only 5 non-baseball autos, no notables) (best baseball: heyward, but NO ONE else)
NON-BB RELICS: 13 (more on the checklist this year, BUT far less hit based on odds, not thrilled)

Bummed so far I must say...

Brent, who were the non-baseball autos?

Also, if you don't mind, could you scan any code cards you got from those 7 cases and any you get from the other 18?

you and 16 others have asked me for scans, including the code breakers from last year who call every hour

BUT there are no code cards this year, which sucks as the sets sold for $150-$200 last year

some said it was every card in the set, but some are saying that they know it's the 1 per case sp minis....

as for the autos, they are on ebay now, thanks

My theory: Topps did not put any Strasburgs in A&G.
