Default Very excited about my latest pickup

My wife knows I must have a card in my hand when I come back from work with the mail in my hand because I have an extra kick in my step & a pretty big grin on my face. I think she kind of understands my passion, although I don't think she will ever fully grasp the sheer jubilation I experience when I find a card that I want in the condition that I seek (which may vary depending on the card and the time period among other factors). Today I received the 1992 Donruss Elite Legends Rickey Henderson /7500. Now when I first started collecting in the early 90s this card was way out of reach for me. 1) There was no ebay, so I never came across it at card shows. In fact I still attend card shows on a regular basis and I have yet to come across it at a show. 2) Even if I had come across this card at a show when I first started collecting (early 90s) I would not be able to afford the card at that time. Although it's not "worth" what it used to be, it's still a very nice card and it gave me like so many other mail days do an extra reason to smile tonight. My wife may not completely understand why, however I am hoping you just might:

I believe the 1992 elite insert cards were sequentially numbered as an extension of the 1991 elite insert cards EXCEPT for the Rickey Henderson Legends card, (L2 and numbered to 7500).

Had a guy show me how to tell if any packs were Elite.I was 20 then and rode around ATL with store managers (Kroger,KB Toy &Hobby etc.) allowing me to search cases.I had no ethics then and thought i hit a gold mine.I have never searched packs since getting back into the hobby in 2013 and would not know how.Haing this "iggy" back in the early nineties bought alot of beer. Sorry for anyone in the ATL buyin 91-92 Donruss.I screwed you.

Good question. The card came in a really nice ultra pro (premium?) black penny sleeve. This is the first time I have seen this sleeve. The only negative that I can see so far is you can't read what's on the back of the card (one side of the sleeve is clear and the other side is black). The ultra pro sticker is on the front of the sleeve, which you can see where the letter "s" is in "series."

Those black penny sleeves are for card games generally. Just an FYI. They work just the same.

Great pickup. 90s inserts are incredible. They're so much more interesting than the redundancies we see year after year. Congrats on the card!

A yes
B I'd be pretty happy if someone said a card I got was of the greatest player ever barring their PC player who they jokingly overhype.

Not that long ago someone else started a thread how most of the the innovations in cards took place in the 90's and I could not agree more.

If I pull a card (i.e. one that is /"d to 50) from a pack today that card typically does not look much different than the card #'d to 99 or even #'d to 25. Now don't get me wrong, there are still some very nice cards out there today, however it still feels like today just about every card is "short-printed."

I remember 4 years ago opening 20 cases of early donruss that I got dirt cheap and pulling 0 elites. Those were impossible to pull.Just makes you wonder how many cases were made when you could open 20 cases and not hit a card numbered to 10,000 lol

Thank you to everyone that has responded to this thread. Your feedback and responses to my post confirm to me that the forum is the best place to go to share good (and the bad) experiences. My wife will probably be happier too
