Topps announces for every 24 wrappers (HOBBY ONLY) of 2010 Topps Chrome Baseball sent to the company, collectors will receive an exclusive 3-card pack of Topps Chrome Rookies & Legends variation cards. In addition, every tenth 3-card pack will feature special refractor versions. The deadline for the promotion is 2/28/11.

Are there any limits? Can you get 12 packs for the wrappers from a case?

anyone else here think topps is doing this in an attempt to make distributors and stores happy since the product has drops about 200 bucks in about the last 2 months

probably. everyone hyped it up expecting a strasburg auto, but instead got a watered down auto checklist. ill probably be picking up half a box for the rookies though.

Maybe I'm missing something. I just looked at the current checklist, looks okay to me for autos. Stanton, Strasburg, Heyward, Colvin, Davis, Nova, Jackson, Leake, Ramos, Castro, Jay and Santana. The wrapper redemption is an added bonus. I just can't believe cases have dropped under $700.

I think they're doing it because another company did it this year with empty boxes.

i think it has more to do with them cranking the presses (every store I know was given a large allocation of this and most did order heavy). This will hopefully help them move a little more, and for those of us breaking it, its a nice little extra bonus.

I'm sure you're right. Either way, I think it's a good idea. It's just too bad they don't offer some sort of chase with it. For instance, it would be nice if there were lower numbered parallels in this redemption set with a 1/1 version. There are going to be so many of these sets produced that I don't think they're going to be worth much.

The Refractors are nice, and I kind of agree with you. Although given this isnt live yet..why not just insert the packs into the boxes? Saves Topps a ton of time and gets us all the inserts now instead of later.

Because then someone that buys only 1 pack could pull one of these cards that otherwise takes you 24 packs to get. You make a good point though.

i would only assume that MAYBE they are tryig to accomodate the collectors who find it hard to buy by the box. /shrug

Matt, I was referring to more like a box topper, I dont think my post was that clear.

Axe your make an interesting point, as this could very help those that buy a few packs here and there (and if your one of those to save your wrappers).

I'm pretty sure Wheeler & Fish are correct here about trying to add some value to what they had hoped to be there best product of the year, but with the Stras injury is going to leave a lot of dealers & distributors with much less profit than anticipated. I would assume that this is a last minute addition and couldn't be inserted because a lot of the cases are already produced. For all we know, these extra cards haven't been printed yet.

I would be willing to bet that with no Strasburg injury, this promotion wouldn't exist.

By "watered down auto checklist" he was referring to the fact that all those guys you mentioned were on the checklist when the checklist was released with 25 names. Then, they updated the checklist to add another 25 names, making it twice as hard to get one of those big name players.

yeah, this is really done to help those of us that own stores. people wanting new baseball product has been big this year with the addition of strasburg and i know many dealers have complained to topps about it since he has gotten hurt so i think this helps out in moving boxes or even packing out boxes. i dont think it has anything to do with sportkings. i think topps could care less about them.
