No guarantees? That may reduce my exposure in group breaks, etc. as far as basketball is concerned. Ridiculous.

Absolutely outrageous. I see a grand total of zero cards that I'd want in my collection.

Sorry to see such poor results from your box breaks.

Not trying to dump on you, but what were you hoping to hit/what is there actually available to hit? Or did you just buy because you can't help it?

Sorry for your bad break op. If people see this and still buy Panini products then you deserve your fate. They stick it to everyone over and over. And you pay them to do it too you. Panini is the only winner from what I can see.

No.... I'm trying to determine if anybody actually knows what is even possible to hit in this product, or if it's just going in blind because it's new and available. Pretty reasonable question I think.

not sure why you say that, If the demand is there than thats what it is. 2 years ago panini did what every want and had a Durant or Kobe auto in every case, and people complained that they were too common..

In other words, no matter what panini does some are not going to be happy.

If he hit a durant or irving im guessing his title would be busted a case "SWEET"

which was mine, cause i hit a durant.

Its always been a gamble and it always will be.

I'm sure myself and a lot of people here feel your pain. Like dude, there some players I have never ever heard of and their signatures get to be in the panini products. It's so stupid. Sorry to hear about your bad breaks though. Gambling is what it is.

Disclaimer: I started to respond, and it got a little long-winded. Feel free to gloss over my rambling. But if you care to read...

The value just isn't there in 95-99% of their products at MAPP prices. That's the real problem. They're just exploiting the people who can't help but open new product. Not saying there's anything wrong with opening regardless of price, as if it's your money, it's your call. But if they had competition from other card companies and their box prices were more reflective of supply and demand, buyers would be happier and more satisfied in general. There's clearly a floor where no matter what the price (within some semblance of reason), people will open and Panini will make their money. When that's the case, and there's no competition, what incentive does Panini have to add more value and content?

What do they pay these lesser rookies on average to sign? Like $5-10 per signature? They're paying these guys $8 a pop plus production costs to end up with something that sells for $2 on the secondary market, killing the value for those who open. What's the breakdown as far as what a small piece of jersey costs? For the Photoshoot materials, next to nothing. For game-used? I have no idea... but again, if the cost greatly outweighs the value it will carry on the secondary market, they should be scaled back. So what do you think the average box of say Timeless Treasures costs them to fill content-wise? Ten bucks? Twenty bucks? I get that there are other costs associated, and they have to make a profit, but $100 is just so excessive.

Given the fact that I think it will be Panini and Panini only as far as basketball is concerned for the foreseeable future, one of two things needs to happen. They either need to drastically reduce the MSRP on these boxes and/or get rid of MAPP or they need to seriously trim the fat on these products (ie we don't need /499+ RC AUs of scrubs in every product, valueless jersey cards /299+, and recycled photography hits). I'd prefer it if they did both.

But again, they clearly aren't marketing their products to me, or anyone else looking for any sort of reasonable return (ie > -75%). They're playing the "it's a hobby, remember, this is for fun, not making money" card. Obviously that's the case. Content + production + marketing + profit + (etc.) = box price. I understand that opening boxes is most likely a losing prop in the long run, and I do like to open for fun. But there's a difference between chalking up a near guaranteed 25% loss to entertainment and the bloodbath that has been ensuing recently with Absolute, Limited, Timeless Treasures, etc. Look at Topps Baseball, Bowman Baseball (and Draft), Topps Chrome Football, Fleer Retro Basketball, and so on. There is a way to make a product that people want and provides a solid return without guaranteeing four hits. There's no reason to kill the consumers like they have been recently other than they can and they're making their money, so who cares? I think their strategy is short-sighted, and slowly turning people off opening boxes (and to some extent, collecting in general). I'm hoping it catches up to them eventually, but not terribly optimistic it will happen any time soon.
