Default Saw Larry Bird's childhood basketball hoop today.


In French Lick for work for a couple of days and thought I would share a photo. Drove by Larry Bird's boyhood home and snapped a picture of his basketball hoop... Or at least what's left of it. Being from Indiana, this has always been sort of a bucket list item for me, and I'm glad to be able to check it off. As you can see by the picture, the "court" is pretty humble. Just proves how hard work and determination will pay off in the long run.

being only 2 hours from french lick, i am surprised i have never visited his home. i have been in the lick many times, but never made the visit to see where it all began. nice post

Nice piece of Basketball History. It is hard to believe that the Hick from French Lick was made in that driveway. I will never forget the Larry Bird versus Magic Johnson NCAA Final and how Larry Bird made a team out of a bunch of also ran Indiana State Players.

I am extremely tempted to knock on the door, American Pickers style, and offer them something for the backboard. But then again, it really is a nice piece of americana seeing as it has been undisturbed all these years. I would hate to rob that experience from anyone else who wants to see it.
