i dont get it? they are technically both "patches" since they are from the collar and arm openings, not the standard jersey material.

They are technically patches, but the piping or armpit/neckline part of the jersey. Panini passes these off as patches all the time. You hardly ever see UD do this, especially with that set. I have seen tons of those Ultimate 2x Patches and never have both of the swatches been pipings. Definitely ruined what could and should have been a nice card.

Upper Deck epically failed though with this in just about every year of Exquisite for the RC's. 2007/08 Exquisite was notorious for having piping patches for the RC's. At least for the most part Panini doesn't use the piping for any of their "higher-end" cards

That's very true and I just remembered this. Heck, 75% of the Durant Exquisite RC's that I've seen are pipings. Maybe even more. A few other rookies from that year had majority of pipings too. Only seen a few 08-09 Exquisite RC's with pipings.

Yep those bland one color dull gray pipings for the Alando Tucker, Jermareo Davidson, and Jared Dudley!

03/04 had a lot of them too, though most were at least multi-colored and it was mainly the crappier rookies

Don't recall 04/05 or 05/06 having any piping patches. 06/07 all the Bargnani's were plain black piping and I think Craig Smith and a few others were piping

And yeah 08/09 wasn't bad at all

Panini’s NT did have some, but not a lot. Off the top of my head, I can remember the Rondo base patch /25 using it and so does the Russell Westbrook base patch. Personally I think it’s only acceptable if it is 3 or more colors , for pipings. One-color patch/prime is horrible anyway you look at it

So funny..how can a patch not be multi-colored. I hate when I finally pull a patch and it is only 1 color. Sure looks like a jersey when I get them.

That's a pretty ignorant thing to say. You know the numbers they wear? They're pretty darn big... so if you get a patch of a number it's likely to only be 1-clr. Had that on a SPGU Jordan patch - was all red from a number with a little red stitching. True patch, not as popular or sell-able as a multi-color patch, but it is a patch, from an actual game-worn jersey (supposedly), so be thankful of that.
