Default 1986 Jordan Rookie

Wanted to get some of the basketball experts opinions on a 1986 Jordan Fleer Rookie. It is graded by SCG with an 88. Not able to access ebay so can't research any prices. Anyone believe this is worth the $500 the person is asking for it?

1. Not sure the reputation of SCG grading service?
2. Think and 88 would yield at least an 8 from PSA if I were to get it regraded?

No guarantee it will regrade a PSA 8. If you want a PSA 8, I suggest you buy a PSA 8.

I wouldn't pay more than $350-400 for that card, but I'd much rather just get a PSA graded Jordan.

I had never heard of SCG before. Know PSA is the authority on vintage cards. Guy said he would take $450 for it but don't think at this point I am gonna take it. Thinking would rather get one that is graded by PSA.

I would not go that far. If it is an old SGC graded card... Then it is legit. Definately will grade a PSA 8. If it is a newer SGC graded card. Then KMD is correct.

SGC was the original grading company. They were held in high regard for years.

Why did they loosen their standards? Is there any way to know when the card was graded?

Yes... the early years of SGC had only a 88 grade... later they changed it to 88 or 8. It depends on what the case says. Do you have a pic?

It might be a deal, but I agree if you want a PSA 8 then buy a PSA 8. Buyer beware and all that. GL!

Well not so much I was looking for a PSA 8. Just thought if I could have crossover grading done by a PSA it would be more marketable in the event I were to purchase it.

SGC is a reputable company. I would seriously consider buying it.

SGC is the oldest grader. They mainly grade old cards though.

SGC is a very good company. I dealt with them some years ago. They are local to me and had walk-in grading of higher value cards that could be done on site, slabbed, very well done. Their partner company grades coins so they are very well known on both sides.

I just got my first graded card back a little while ago, a Jordan rookie graded 8. Shoot me a pm and I'll send you a good scan so you can compare.

They were one of the big three with PSA and BGS being the other two. Since it is graded as a 88 it was under the old stadard and the grade should hold up well.
They were big players in the very vintage cards from the early 1900's but it seems that PSA has taken over that from them.
