Superb card, Joe. I remember someone had the LeBron version of that card and I really liked that one too.

I got this Hank Luisetti cut auto in the post two weeks ago. I've barely stopped reading about Luisetti since. There are some great books about him, including 'Game Changer: How Hank Luisetti Revolutionized America's Great Indoor Game'.

Here are some quotes about Luisetti:

- "[He] changed [basketball] forever - literally, single-handedly and overnight" (Alexander Wolff, Sports Illustrated)

- "[He] drove the Original Celtics into the dusty archives and made the Boston Celtics possible" (Arthur Daley, New York Times)

- "[He was] the nation's first recognised basketball matinee idol. He took the East Coast by storm in December 1936 with his revolutionary one-handed shot and, in the process, radically altered the popular style of play." (Peter C. Bjarkman, The Biographical History of Basketball)

Bjarkman argues that Luisetti is overlooked today by basketball historians, despite the fact he was voted the second best player of the first half of the 20th century (behind only George Mikan).

Hey Will,

thanks for the brief history on Luisetti -- I'm def going to read up more about him.. I'm guessing his rookie card is in the 1933 Sport Kings..

No, he never played in the pros, but was one of the greatest college players ever. He therefore doesn't have a RC.

In the Biographical History of Basketball (an outstanding book written at the turn of the century), they regard Luisetti as one of the most significant players in (college and pro) basketball history, despite never playing in the NBA. Their full list is as follows: Baylor, Bird, Chamberlain, Cousy, Erving, Gola, Johnson, Jordan, Kurland, Luisetti, Mikan, Robertson and Russell.

He played for Stanford and, when they headed East to play Long Island University in New York, Luisetti wowed the Madison Square Garden fans and Stanford emerged victorious and broke Long Island's 43-game winning streak. The New York fans gave him a standing ovation.

As a result, the one-handed shot caught on nationwide, and he became arguably basketball's first celebrity player, even going on to star in a Hollywood film called Campus Confessionals (which, despite the name, is not a porno...).

Interestingly, except for a handful of cut autographs, the only basketball cards of Luisetti are his 1977-79 Sportscaster and 1993 Action Packed Hall of Fame cards.

For me, that only adds to the intrigue.

Joe, Amazing Jabbar!! Congrats on that bad boy.

Will, Very nice looking Luisetti, and so limited!! Thanks a lot for sharing all that info about him... I always enjoy reading about their history. One day i'd like to start a mini library of all HOFers' books. My kids would surely enjoy reading them too, they love basketball! I think it's important to learn the whole history...

Just wanted to show 2 new ones for my George Gervin PC. I just bought these and don't have them in hand yet.

Ultimate Virtuoso #8/10

chronology timeless #/99

and another nice one I got from a guy on here that needed to sell it really bad.

Three great Gervin cards. I've got the Chronology auto and really like it. That Virtuoso set is very underrated. Meanwhile, you can't go wrong with Notable Nicknames (I like them but find they're a bit too expensive for me).

Yea it's the only notable nickname I have. I had never seen a gervin patch out of 10 on the virtuoso(i think someone on here had a regular one numbered to 25).

also have a significant numbers jersey auto coming as well as 5 or 6 others.

I'll do a pc thread show off when I get everything updated.

Nice Gervin!! Two pictures don't show... but I know what the canvas auto looks like.

If you want, try using Tinypic.com to upload pics, cause they usually stay here for good!

I think I have two Gervin autos - Inkredle and a Sp Inkscriptions/25 "Iceman"

Might as well show this here too...

My very first "Prime" Silhouettes!

If this is not old school, I don't know what is... Numbered to only 5

1960's Celtics!!!

That's the first Bailey Howell patch I've seen. Great work! That's perhaps the best Silhouette card I've seen so far.

i was using the pic from the guy i bought them from and he took it down.

I'm gonna do a whole pc player show off when they get here. It's not as big time as some of you guys but i just got back into collecting in the last 6 months after a couple year layoff (where i sold eveything i had).

I'm having to be more selective now as we are paying off bills and i have 2 daughters.
