Interesting.

So would this mean (in a way) Upper Deck is the only company putting out products?

It is interesting. I seem to recall cards being out before in the '98 lockout.

Yes, because they had a draft that summer and started the season late. The scenario in the article is different. If this upcoming season is lost and a new collective bargaining agreement is not reached then there will be no Draft and that would create no new Rookies and change the whole landscape of this CBA and everything else related with the NBA.

The draft was held as scheduled in June. But if Panini can't get the rookies to a photo shoot or otherwise get them into products, then they are better off waiting. Once the 1998-99 season finally started, the products came fast and furious.

This is going to be 100% different. Apparently there will not be a 2011-12 season. If they dont get everything resolved by next June then there wont be any new Rookies entering the NBA because they cant have a draft. This could get really, really messy.

there were cards issued during the lockout, just no rc's issued during the lockout. Thats why every series 2 had RC's and for brands like SPX finite they had to do that weird bonus pack in UD series 2 MJ Access.

Rookie class is weaker than this past one anyway. Whatever. I think I might start busting hockey for the hell of it.

Clippers rookie Travis Leslie tweeted that he just signed his first Upper Deck rookie card today. Wonder which product it is for?

Hopefully UD can capitalize. I know there wont be Irving or Williams, but hopefully they can put out somthing different like a UD black (just with college uniforms)

I realize that there may not be a season this year (there was the same threat in '98), but my point was that the draft already happened. Kyrie Irving was drafted first and has already signed with Panini. The 2012 draft is a long way away.

Probably some product that will be delayed a few times if I had to guess.

Man thinking back on 1998, the owners should have accepted whatever deal the players wanted cause if there wasn't such a prolonged lockout Michael Jordan probably would have returned for one more year. His absence KILLED the ratings during the 99-00 season!
