This is what happens when people deceide to display their cards, or a seller leaves a card in his card shop showcase for 10 years... LOL

I would imagine, especially in places like FL where it's hotter. If heat plays any role, not positive about that, but the light, whether sun or light bulb, will definitely damage the auto and/or the card itself, such cads like Topps Chrome Refrectors, where light will damage the shinny finish of the card and make them look green or some other wierd color. I've seen these in person when compared to the rest and you can definitely tell the difference.

Do you think a UV protected one touch or top loader would stop something like this from happening?

No. I wouldn't take a chance anyway to find out. I keep mine in a wooden box and have the AC on whenever it gets too hot... lol

My cards are as blue and bold as the day I bought them. Sure it would be nice to display cards, I surely would love to, but it's not worth it at the end. I'd rather just take them out from time to time to admire them and put them right back in when i'm done!

Keep those cards safe boys. Auto or non auto...

Did you have them in light, or where they just of a magical set where they dissapear on their own? lol

Depending on the finish of the card this might happen, I would imagine at least, can't confirm that. But light will do the trick if magic doesn't.

Check out this Topps Chrome Refractor.

Now, from the pic you can't always tell, because you may get the card and then it's a different color than displayed, especially with Chrome Ref. But this is around the color it would look if it had light damage to it. But the only way you'll be able to see the difference is to get about 5 of them or so, where 4 would be on the normal colors it should be and you can spot the damaged one easily.

You can try this at a card shop or show where the seller has multiples, you will see the difference, especially if the seller got them from all different places...

The cards were like plastic.. I don't own any of them anymore but it took about 6 months for most to start fading without any sunlight. These were produced in 1997 too.

That stinks!

Yeah man, once you see those bright bold blue autos turning darker and darker and they start to appear almost black(in bad cases) or just very dark blue, it's already damaged.

Time to turn on those air conditioners!! That's what I do believe it or not lol

I've spent way too much time and money to just let these bad boys fade... Did I mention I love these cards? haha

actually these were images i had last week... although the scanner also make them looks a bit lighter than normal,
the russell is getting blurry and the rodman has faded quite a bit

Here is another example of what happens when you display your cards in the sunlight:

05/06 Exquisite Chris Paul RC 4Clr Patch Auto #06/99 | eBay

Some buyer bought this one for $1.6k though. Why!? The auto is GONE!

Ha... Just noticed that the CP3 I posted is from DACVintage just like the Pippen. Looks like these cards were displayed at DA Cardworld's shop for a bit too long.

Edit: The other Pippen Auto they are selling is a fake Autographics! Link: http://www.ebay.com/itm/SCOTTIE-PIPP...item3cbb291adc

Didn't these actually rub off, not fade because of the acetate card signed with a sharpie? I had a Barry Sanders from whatever that Pinnacle motion set was called from the mid 90's and it was nasty right out of the pack. The ink had beaded up because of the finish on the card.

Not basketball, but some of the worst cards are 2007 Sweet Spot baseball skin autos...some of those are barely legible even right out of the pack.

Wow... LMBO!!! I bet he has a lot more cards that are faded. That sucks!!

Yeah I noticed that Pippen yesterday lol. As fake as a $3 bill. I put in a good offer on a real one but didn't win it.

Those leather style cards seem to absorb the ink over the years from Sharpie like pens. I have a bunch of Baseballs signed, and the ones signed in ink (ballpoint pen) still look nice, while anything signed in Sharpie has faded some into the leather.

UD seemed to go to ball point on some of the later Sweet Spot cards. I guess Panini has just not learned.

Check this one out. Used to be as blue as can be... look at it now!

They don't always totally fade away, unless it's extreme light for a long period of time, but it surely still has an affect on it though.
