I've been trying to find an affordable 1948 Bowman Joe Fulks card for ages.
One finally appeared on eBay for a bargain $6.99 so I snapped it up. Sure, the card is creased across the middle, but that will just add to the vintage feel of the card. A real piece of history. Joe Fulks' life story fascinates me. He was one of the pioneers who first used the jump shot in the pros. He led the BAA (the precursor to the NBA) in scoring by a wide margin, won a BAA championship with the Philadelphia Warriors and was named All-BAA 1st Team 3 times. Also, he went on to become a 2 time NBA All-Star. He once scored 63 points in a game which was the NBA record for many years until Elgin Baylor topped it. Despite his amazing achievements, he is largely forgotten today. Fulks was murdered by his girlfriend's jealous son in 1976 at the age of 54. The news barely made the newspapers. Imagine a former NBA leading scorer getting murdered today and nobody caring. It just wouldn't happen. Personally, I think he was robbed when the NBA named its Top 50 Players in 1996. What is the oldest card in your collection? Anyone got any proper old school cards? I'd love to see them.

I'm glad I started this thread. The cards that have been posted so far are great to see. I'd like to own that Nat Holman card - it's on my want list. That 1887 card is great! It reminds me of British tea cards from the same era.
Knicker_Please, how do you store your 1948 Bowman Red Holzman card? I'm thinking of putting my Joe Fulks card in a standard Ultra Pro magnetic holder. After all, if it rattles around a bit it won't matter - the card is already in awful condition! By the way, it's great to see a Knicks card collector showing an appreciation for the team's history. The game was very different back then.

thanks man! yeah i'm glad you started the thread too - i was entirely unaware of fulks... but now i am a believer lol...
yeah i just cut a regular toploader almost in half and put it in with a piece of tape on top lol...not the best but all i could think of, you cant really tell in the pic but thats basically the entire toploader...just a thin one 20 pt or whatever... yeah i mean ever since meeting walt as a little kid in charlotte seeing the knicks play the hornets when i was living in south carolina, he's been my favorite player (and Pat of course since i grew up with him). partly because of my dad and walt being his favorite player, but walt was just so nice when we went up to him before the game, he said meet me after the game and i'll sign and take pictures with you...told us where to meet him and we talked and i took a picture of my dad and his childhood hero...he signed all our stuff and it left a lasting impression. then when i got a bit older and started watching walt actually play and got into collecting, my walt frazier and old school knicks card obsession began... now i have my childhoods wildest dream fulfilled - im a season ticket holder living within walking distance of the garden where i go check out the knicks and my boy walt clyde frazier EVERY home game... tell that to childhood me and i slap you in the face lol...

That's awesome. It must have been great to meet Walt Frazier and I'm jealous that you're a season ticket holder. I remember when I sold you the Frazier/King dual auto patch I noticed your address was in central New York.
I took my girlfriend to New York for her Birthday a few years ago. We got a backstage tour of Madison Square Garden and I remember seeing an old photo of the 1970s Knicks team hanging on the wall. I was amazed at how many player names I recognised. It really made me interested in the history of the Knicks. Not just the 1970s, but the decades before that: Ned Irish, Dick McGuire, Fred Schaus, Joe Lapchick, etc.

Ok, my 'oldest card' record didn't last very long. Just 24 hour, in fact
![]() I just won this Nat Holman 1933 Sport Kings card on eBay for $24.95 BIN. I've wanted it for ages, but have been put off by the $100+ price tag in the past. Thanks for the inspiration, Sutantoj. Now that's what I call 'game used'
