Default Kobe retiring after his contract over? (35yrs old)

Kobe Bryant says he'll likely retire soon - Yahoo! Sports

Pretty much says he will consider retiring after his contract is over.

Thoughts? You think he will keep going after his contract or retire?

I really hope he doesn't retire soon, he still has plenty of game in him, I can see him playing till 40 but who knows if his knees would hold up...

Kobe is one of the very few nba players who has that much competitive spirit in him. The one that wants to beat everyone rather than join them.

Classy....Kobe will go out as one of the ultimate competitors and one of the greatest if not the greatest of his generation. That's a fact no matter whether you love or hate the Lakers.

Yep, no argument there.

But, I can't wait for him to leave and never come back unless he REALLY wants to be like Mike and retire only to come back a few years later

See, that's the thing.....I respect him, I just don't like him or his team.

This is a hard question to answer. On one hand, he states that he isn't going to hang around averaging 19 points a game. On the other hand, he is the ultimate competitor so it will be hard for him to give it up. He has been in the NBA since he left high school. He really knows nothing else.

He already stated he doesn't want to coach, and I highly doubt he is going to join the nut jobs on TNT as a commentator.

In my opinion, he is going to play as long as he can as long as the Lakers are competing for the title.

I think he's waiting for that last ring that will never come.... and in the process he will ruin his awesomeness. Just like the gamblers that never know when to stop until they're broke!!!!!!

Edit: for errors... damn I need to get some sleep!!!!

with his will to win, if he didnt play for the lakers and have great teams built, he would have left and joined others, no doubt about it. im not much of a kobe fan but it will be a sad day when the nba loses him. he has been one of the best to play and its great to have players with a skill set like his, determination, and a killer instinct.

Here we go...... this just became a Kobe vs. Jordan thread. They both SUCK!!

But seriously though, as the newer guys in this hobby see Lebron win all those rings, and players like Durant, Blake and so on, take over... then they'll have it fresh in their minds that Kobe played all those years with no rings haha so the faster he retires, the better it'll be for him.

It's bad enough that some youngsters don't know who Jordan is, but Kobe!? He better quit while................. Well, while he's still considered a great player.

Old enough to know that a players last few years in the league do not define who they are.

Shaq's last two years
09-10 12 points 6.7 rebounds
10-11 9 points 4.8 rebounds

He sucks

Hakeem's last two years
00-01 12 points 7.4 rebounds
01-02 7 points 6 rebounds

Overrated!

Malone's last two years
02-03 20 points
03-04 13 points

What an average players

Pippen's last 3 years
01-02 10.6 points
02-03 10.8 points
03-04 5.9 points

Nothing without Jordan!

All I'm saying is that you are waaaaay off base if you think an aging player that continues to play despite being less productive is somehow tarnishing their legacy
