Good spot for him, they are gonna be a decent team next year.

He is what he is, hes not a star but hes a scorer, he is what Vince Carter once was :/

They needed a scorer with Terry leaving...while they haven't been able to make a huge splash, the additions of Mayo, Collison, and Chris Kaman have all been solid pick-ups.

Yea, think it might be time to unload my pc of him, just another man-child who probably went with whoever offered the most money. Man I feel like something about this offseason and the insane idea that the only places anyone wants to go play are brooklyn, miami, and dallas is really hurting my interest in the nba.

Nice pick up for Dallas. Cuban continues to make good move despite losing big pieces.

For what he was looking for I'm pretty sure Dallas and Phoenix were the only one's who could afford him (of those interested).. Woulda loved to see him on the Bulls but just wasn't meant to be :-/... Courtney Lee to Phoenix now??

Co-Signed, not sure who I'd compare him to but def not Half Man / Half Amazing Mr Vinsanity himself.. Unless you were talking about the Orlando version lol

THey would have been better off not signing Mayo, but I see why they did. It is a high risk high reward gamble. Just signing Delonte West and picking up another filler player would have been safer for next year.

Lets see the contract terms. Hopefully its not too long of a deal. I won't mind a 1 or 2 year 7million per deal. But if its 4 years 30 million, you might find Mayo smoking up all the time and not caring!

All Mayo does is score, what did Carter do? Dunk and score. Not much else to their games. Mayo has been a giant disappointment, kinda like Carter was.

I am not the biggest Carter fan, but Mayo if he actually played to his potential could be what VC was without all the dunks and stuff.

OJ Mayo signed for 2 years, maybe 1 with an option at like 5$ mil. Bargain.

so if darko milicic played to his potential he could be kevin garnett? you can't compare an established STAR player like vince to a guy whose been a 6th man before he turned 25.

Vince Carter is still a star? Where? 35 years old, averaged 10 points last year = star.

Vince is on the end of his career, anyone who thinks hes still a star needs to look a little deeper, and no, I will not discount Mayo who is not even 25 yet to reaching Vince Carters potential.

No one thought Darko was going to be good except for Chad Ford, so that analogy doesnt work, but when OJ Mayo was coming out of college he was HIGHLY regarded, until he took money and turned into a blockhead.

VC averaged 21.4 pts a game over his career, 5 boards, 4 assists and 44 %...you mean to tell me Mayo cant do that?

No, he can't. He hasn't come close thus far and I don't think he's suddenly going to become a much better and more consistent basketball player.

Mayo signing leaves Mavs room for '13 free agent chase

O.J. Mayo, who made $5.6 million last season, could step into the starting lineup with Dirk Nowitzki, Shawn Marion, Chris Kaman and Darren Collison. Also, the off-season moves still allow the Mavs to be a major player during next summer's free agency period that could include Chris Paul, Andrew Bynum, Dwight Howard, James Harden, Josh Smith and David West.

I do actually. On a team when hes not gonna be the 6th man, sure I Think he could do that. Not sure its going to happen with Dirk there but VC was the man and the go to guy even when McGrady was there, Mayo was the 6th man. You give Mayo a long leash and the ability to be the guy, he can do what VC did....easily.

so OJ Mayo is going to win rookie of the year, be an 8 time all star and lead all star voting 3 times or more (which has only been done by VC, Jordan and Erving) and be in the 20,000 point club?
