Unhappy The lost art of basketball card photography!

Remember before Panini, when cards used to include brilliant sports photography? Upper Deck did it well, but Topps used to have the nicest photos; action shots that captured the best of NBA action.
Stadium Club especially, on its super glossy card stock, was a very rewarding base set to collect.

I miss actually seeing a shot from a game on a card rather than just a player cropped onto a shiny foil background. Yes, many of them have an artistic appeal - but others are just plain boring.

Dig through your base cards - those usually have the best shots - and show me your favorite card photos.

Three of my favorites: Andrew Lang turning away Michael Jordan, Eddie Jones embarrassing Greg Ostertag, and Kobe posting up LeBron.

Panini doesn't use photos, they use cartoons

Horrible print jobs and ugly poses

Yes! I've been saying for a while I miss the crowd shots in the background, makes it seem for a second your there... Especially here where we are lucky to see 10 games during a season...

Completely agree, been saying it for awhile. Panini is awful with photos. 99% of their photos are just the player walking up court out taking jump shot.

Topps had the sickest photos. So fun to look through those cards.

Here's one I always loved.

I wonder how the people in the crowd taking pictures photos came out!

While Panini photos arent the best of best with a focus on action shots, I think UD sucks as well. UD has been copycating the same pic of players over and for different brands. Theyve done it for years.

Best photography on cards was and has always been Topps Stadium club.

The card company must pay to use the images. In the olden days Topps staged photoshoots to capture their card images. Today, the leagues can dictate who may sell images.

Put that one next to the Kobe from the same set and you got a nice theme going with reverse dunks.
