Default Lebron unlikely to accept contract extension

This is via prosportsdaily.....

" LeBron James all but said he plans to become an unrestricted free agent next summer.

This does not mean James will leave the Cavaliers, but it does mean he wants to keep all his options open.

In his strongest comments on the subject to date, the NBA's reigning MVP indicated Friday that he would not sign the extension, believed to be three years, offered by the Cavs on July 18 nor pick up his player option that would keep him with the team through the 2010-11 season.

Speaking at the launch of his new Nike Air Max LeBron VII sneaker, James said, "I signed a contract in 2006 with an option. It would make no sense for me to sign that contract if I didn't keep my options open.

"I'll let you fill in the blanks.""

One of the days I'm looking most forward to in the next year is the day when LeBron signs a new contract to stay in Cleveland... not because there is any doubt in my mind that its going to happen, but because I am going to enjoy the month long crying, whining, and anger that will come from the hundreds of sports writers who have taken every opportunity over the last 2 years to spin anything LeBron says as a sign he's going to leave Cleveland. LeBron says simply that it would make no sense for him to exercise his 1 year player option right now for the 2010-11 season, and the media spins it the way this article reads. Its like they think if they say it enough, they can will it to happen. But thats OK, each article like this only builds my excitement for the aftermath of LeBron staying in Cleveland.

this is such a waste of damn time.. He is not a free agent for another YEAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

almost as bad as Michael Crabtree's advisor saying he'll sit out the year... WOW less than a week into camp...great way to get everyone on your side

He'll play with Wade before Carmelo just for the reason you mentioned...clearly he's excited for this upcoming year, but he knows Shaq is not getting any younger.
