Default Why do people think Exquisite MJ autos will fail?

In my opinion its the same thing people were complaining about with UD All Time Greats when they heard one MJ in every 6 boxes or one LBJ or MJ auto in each case of SPA.

In the end the MJs never went lower than $400 and LBJs go from $100-250.

WIth Exquisite the Autos are going to be in even more demand, we will see though

too much overproduction will lead to cheaper prices.

people think exquisite will fail because they didn't order any. Its simple, people who ordered think it'll be a huge hit, and people who didn't think its a fail. only time will tell .

I think the autos will hold their value. I think people mean to say they wish there were fewer produced, so those few would be worth more.

isnt it easier to buy a MJ Bulls auto from exquisite
Michael Jordan 06-07 Exquisite Enshrinements Auto /25 | eBay

for $1150 vs spending $2k for a case and pulling one from a college set? Its pretty easy decision in my mind

The MJ auto will not fail. I think the issue is the starting price of the product. I mean for those that got the box for 500-600 range this will be a very good break but for those buying it now at its current price $900 that seems to be to much. I see the MJ settle around 600-800 once the hype dies down but time will tell.

People better start realizing that Exquisite cardboard is MUCH better than other cardboards..... When Jordan signs his name on an Exquisite card, there is no better card he could have signed. Exquisite is the best piece of cardboard in the world!!!!!!!!!!!!! Better hurry up before it's too late and get one!

Fall from what? I think most think that MJ auto prices from this "Exquisite" product will not be able to support $900-1000 per box prices. How many $2k+ cards are in this product? There were 300+ of these types of cards including a bunch that were $5k+ (around 75 or so) in Retro when it was at its peak. I really like Exquisite cards - but these are not as good as the originals and are not good value at the presale prices going around now (nice cards in their own right though). Same thing I thought about Retro at $600 per box.

same thing happened with all time greats

you could pick up jordan autos for 325-350

probably around 300 for a while... but they bounced back to 400

Same thing with this...

Why complain????? basketball has been brutal last year or two...

Enjoy it...

1) No patches

and

2) College uniforms

Put MJ in a Bulls jersey and I would think these cards would be a huge hit. Rather, I think it's just more weird forced stuff by UD as they try to scrape up whatever money they can before they get their license back.

Actually, does anyone know when UD can get their license back?

In all honesty it won't matter. Even UD reps have told me personally there is basically close to 0% that they get the license due to the money Panini can offer compared to them (UD).

It makes me sad, because Fleer Retro would have been the best set ever if it was licensed.

yes, that sounds about right.

looking at Panini's group website now, it says "Net Revenues in excess of 621 million Euros (year 2011)."

What is that, close to a global gross revenue of $1.5-2 BILLION????

Unless one of the American card companies merges with some other US conglomerate, who could ever outbid Panini for a license they are actively pursuing?...

Yes but will prices for current stars like Kobe, Rose, and Durant who arent with UD going to see a surge in price more than that of lebron and jordan due to their scarcity.

Simple jealousy, or hatred of UD for whatever reason. shrug.

I don't think they will "fail", but I do think an extra 1000 MJ autos from one release will help to start the market saturation! If they continue to do well with sales, like they clearly did with Retro, then we can only expect more releases and in turn, more MJ's.

I like the look of some of the designs I have seen so far, so the design component is FAR from being a bust. But the reality is that Exquisite as a brand has always been about Nasty RPAs and LL etc. Take them away and the release can NEVER be as good as the previous ones! Ans that isn't even talking about the uniforms on the cards.

I just hate how people have a blind hate for Panini and a blind love for UD! How can you drum up a release so much when you haven't even seen the cards?? How do you know that they aren't going to have pictures of MJ with his arms cut off again (Retro BMOC), how do you know it isn't going to be the same pic of a player used on most of that players cards?? etc

Its fine to like one more than the other, but at least attempt to make a proper assessment on it!

PS - Those Bling autos look awesome! I can't wait to see one in hand!

I have 1 case of exquisite coming tomorrow to FLIP for I know people will be crazy with this...Just to set the tone...

So on my "Unbiased" answer on this

I personally wont buy even one box for my own because this is crazy...

Everybody excited of getting an MJ auto per case but how many collectors have you tried to trade or deal with and you offer them an MJ auto in a college uni,. they'll answer you, I dont do college unis...only bulls jersey

Now another flood of MJ college unis are coming which will saturate the market further.

I hate seeing debate threads on this, because the answer is SIMPLE... Law of Supply and Demand....

Exactly!

Kind of like how the UD Retro PMG cardboard is worth so much more than the original cardboard from the 90's! All those were shilled and that's the only reason they hold value, but this new retro stuff, that's the real deal and has never been shilled, because it's just that damn good!
