I respect the WNBA unlike many of the male NBA fans.

I watched a good number of games this season and they're actually very impressive ballers. Any benchwarmer in the WNBA would wipe the floor with me 1 on 1

Very great post.

The OP and many others are horribly sexist when you think about it. They are people playing the sport you love- what difference does it make if they are male or female?

Honestly, the reason nobody cares isn't because they are women....

It's because there already exists a superior basketball league other than the WNBA.

This is the equivalent to the Minor League world series.

I truly believe that it has nothing to do with gender, it's just that it's inferior to a much more popular and competitive league.

Why is it more competitive? I honestly don't see how it's any more competitive. Are you saying that there is more talent in the NBA?

Your question doesn't have a right or wrong answer....popularity is purely subjective.

The NBA is more popular because more people like it.

It's more competitive because there are a lot more people/teams/special interests involved in the NBA than WNBA.

Yes.

Just like there is more talent in MLB compared to the Minors.

wrong- the only reason it stays open is because the nba subsidizes it.

I personally do think WNBA is a successful league. I actually think it is the top 2 in women sport business (besides soccer). It gets young girls to work for. It pays better than a lot of sports.

Of course, it is hard to compare to NBA which has 60+ years history. WNBA is like 15 years. Then WNBA used to have Cynthia Cooper. If WNBA was made in 1990, we would see more games on how Cynthia Cooper killed every team in the league.

And I do think there are a lot more for the league to do on marketing. They can easily hype up the whole WNBA final to phase into new NBA season. They can work in prime time deal with network (it is harder).

Was going to post this, the NBA keeps the WNBA afloat. There are reasons beyond the direct profit/loss of the WNBA as a league why it stays in business. Whether or not those are good reasons to keep it running is up to you.

Not liking the WNBA isn't sexist on its own. It's only sexist if you don't watch when you would have otherwise just because the competitors are female. I have absolutely no interest in the product because it just isn't entertaining to me. I hate the self-righteousness that gets tossed around in threads like this.

I went to a Division 3 school where Chantel Tremetiere (former WNBA player) grew up and she would play pickup in our gym. She wasn't better than anyone on my college team.

That says it all...she was barely better than me. Pathetic

heck yeah there is more talent in the NBA. A scrub from the NBA would be annual MVP in the WNBA. Its a silly argument to say its sexist that NBA players are more talented. Now if you like watching the WNBA, more power to you. To me its not entertaining.

I have a friend who has played one-on-one against a WNBA player who retired within the last few years, and he beat her. He is 17 and wasn't even starting till recently on the high school's division 4 basketball team. I think that tells you a lot.
