Let me start by saying I am a 17 year old (as the title states) and am a senior in High School. It is 1:35 AM on the east coast, and I have a long week ahead of me with college applications due and my ACT exam in a week.
On Saturday (10/21) I noticed numerous people posted group breaks for Exquisite. I noticed the local BCF member, Crazymj, was doing a raffle for spots. It was a draft break. 10 spots $50 a spot for 3 spots in the break. I asked him to hold 4 for me. I was busy with some other things and after a long wait, I was only able to get 3. I almost got 2 spots in the break, but was last one out. So a $165 spot for $150 was pretty good at the time. The break was slowly being filled and we did another raffle and I got 3 spots again and won one spot in the break. I had spent $300 for 2 spots in an Exquisite break, not a bad haul for a 17 year old IMO. My budget was very low and I was hoping for something big considering I had not exactly asked my parents if I could spend the money (hobby = addiction (-: ) and I am not one of those rich spoiled kids, I have been able to make some extra $$ from this hobby. Then came the random. We randomized it 5 times, and I got the first and sixth spot. I was shocked and was running around my house screaming and woke my parents up. I chose not to explain the situation yet and they went back to sleep. Numerous strong offers were thrown at me and I knew I was not ready to make a decision. In the meanwhile, Crazymj traded me his 17th pick and the following card for my 6th pick. ![]() The card is damaged, but it is a sweet card. Will keep it in my PC for some time. People were eager to bust the case, so I opted not to sell the first pick. The first two boxes had a nice LBJ Shadow Box, Magic Shadow Box, and a Rodman gold auto, and some other nice stuff. I was hoping that it wouldn't be a case that didn't have an MJ. There were 2 shadow boxes pulled whose names escape me now, and a nice Klay Thompson Exquisite auto in the last box. Then came the last card of the break... ![]() I will let the card speak for itself, and a shameless plug, that the card is available. I was so ecstatic to have pulled my first MJ auto and it was not the shadow box variation. Especially with me going through stressful time, this has really brightened my mood. Thank you Crazymj and everyone on these forums who have made this a wonderful hobby for me!! |

Awesome MJ auto!! That's a really sweet hit and I can only imagine how excited you were.
In fact, this was my favourite part... Quote:

Nice card, but aren't you the guy who has been using the "poor kid trying to get a Bill Russell exquisite story", where some people on here gave you free money (Boston Nut) or favorable trades to help, but yet you can risk $300 on a raffle to a group break. Lucky you.
