He had a good role in OKC, and he proved it by winning 6th man of the year. Some players play better off the bench than starting.....I'm not saying that's the case for Harden, but now he'll have to prove that he's worth that extra $5 million.

Harden is a great player. I think OKC definitely got worse instead of better from the deal. I understand it was about money but I think they should have done anything to keep the trio of Durant/Westbrook/Harden together...

Whatever your opinion of the actual trade, Harden comes out looking a little two-faced and selfish. He's been talking about sacrifice, brotherhood, camaraderie, and a chance at a title for months. The team offered him 4/55.5 when they could have offered 4/60. Not exactly a huge sacrifice. Westbrook left $16 million over 5 years on the table, and Ibaka probably left a little money on the table, too. But Harden wanted a max and I think he wants to be the guy. So he's gone. It's been interesting to watch him develop. He had nowhere near this type of swag his first year in the league, and now he's this basketball-playing hipster god. I think he just outgrew the team. Oh well.
Normally, I'm all about everyone going out and getting theirs. Get the best deal you can for yourself, and you shouldn't have to answer to anyone. But don't lead on a fanbase and essentially lie to their faces when you're talking about all this stuff you clearly don't care about. Just be a man about it. You want a max, you deserve a max, go and get a max. No need to talk about sacrifice. Now I need to change my avatar.

Okc did well in this trade imo. If Harden wanted to stay he would have left alittle on the table and signed. He was leaving next year anyhow so they essentially turned nothing into picks, potential and a professional.

You see how Jeff Green was also part of the original trio, they traded him too. IMO I rather would have Jeff Green than Harden but w/e

Okc made a nice decision. Max contract players need to be Superstars/Franchise type assets or they will kill you in slary cap space for a long long time.
Harden is a nice player but not one you build a team around, so it was in their best financial judgement to send him packing. The Heat exposed in him the finals though as a streaky jump shooter who has a tough time creating his own shot when the D is turned up. |

I don't think it was about the 5 mill. I think he wanted to prove he can be the go to guy on his own team. I think it's a pretty even trade trade, Jeremy Lamb is actually a better shooter than Harden.

My only input in this, is that OKC made a HUGE mistake. Not only did they give up too much, but they are basically saying "The Heat and Lakers will win, we will wait until they can't"

When Harden came off the bench he brought energy when he came to the floor.
Martin can stretch the floor but I don't think he can create plays for others like Harden did, Harden has lost his 15mins of fame now that he is in houston. He may play a bigger role but won't get the spot light since no one cares about houston. With Lin being there they'll get some prime time games but I don't think Harden will be a Franchise superstar as some may expect him to be. |

harden is no doubt a great player but you couldn't bank your future with four highly paid players. you gotta leave a little cap space for some talents. okc is not a big market team so they wanna avoid paying luxury tax as much as possible. i think they got some good future assets with the trade. kevin martin may not be a perfect replacement for harden but he sure brings some shooting to okc. leave the defense to thabo i guess. those future picks could still be traded elsewhere in exchange for some other talents when the right deal comes. i don't have idea on jeremy lamb but he's a top 12 picks so i guess there's something in him.

I don't see how this is a bad trade for OKC. As many others have said, Harden is a bench player, so to get two first round picks, plus a potential third, it seems that OKC made out like bandits.
Plus, with how well they develop players (like Harden), I think OKC still represents the West in the Finals this year. The Lakers look good on paper, but Howard doesn't add anything different than what they lost in Bynum, and Nash isn't the shooting type. Bryant will still shoulder the responsibility of carrying the entire team.
