I have a couple PSA mint 9's with coating and without....The ones with coating were fetching a little more than the ones without back then....Dont know why, I think they look much better without the coating!

protector meaning peel? i just asked him the same thing,I wouldnt go as far as saying fishy because BGS gave the grade not the OP.Maybe the protector film (peel) is not a big deal like it use to be? I still keep the peels on mine just because of the notion of decreased value if peel is removed.

Thannks. The first three cards were picked up when I started collecting seriously. Just keep suspense going. Tough to get 10 on centering in TC RC.

It wont grade less because it doesnt have the coating...People liked the coating back then because it supposedly protected the surface of the card..

I love early 1/1s, the odds of pulling them back in the day were insane. Nice Cards!

Thanks for 1 vote. I hope to have some donations of Kobe top cards. Honored thanks. There are many true Kobe collectors, I'm just one of many and most won't show their PC.

I see. Good to know this. I actually like the peel on. If I could find a Kobe 10 with it one back, I would. Thanks.

Haha. Thanks. Kobe has many great cards. I only have a handful of them. Very fortunate to land those cards. As it could be I chose to pass or deal didn't work out etc. Good luck to our Lakers.

Thanks.

I honestly don't know. I bought it long time ago from a seller. I have seen quite a few 10 over those times, none has the coating. I also saw Kobe 96-97 Finest Gold Ref BGS 10 POP 2, both of them, none with the coating.

I think it's hard to get the same grade with coating on. It can block viewing the player a bit, but I'd prefer it on. I was just starting out back, and didn't see an option of high grades with coating on. Now I'm less fascinated by high graded during picking up stuffs.

Nice to have a discussion about this. And I'd like to know more.

Here is from BGS website:

About Refractor Protective Coating:

The peel or no peel debate has been waging since the inception of the protective coating. One unknown factor has been that of the long-term effects of leaving the peel on. These coatings were never intended to remain on the cards long-term and only time will tell how well they will hold up, whether the cards are professionally graded and sealed or 'raw'.

In terms of the grading of such cards by BGS, it is impossible to grade the surface beneath the coating. Thus, the coating itself must be treated as the surface and graded accordingly. Because these coatings are sometimes scratched, bubbled, or flared, unpeeled cards usually receive lower surface grades than peeled cards. On the other hand, graded non-peeled cards typically command premium values over peeled cards in the same condition.

Thanks. It's probably also one of best Kobes I ever picked up. Glad it was a good opportunity and everything worked out.

Thanks. Yeah, since no Jordan, it's quite hard to hit one of best four cards in the product. I passed picking up /25 version of the same card, and glad I got a better chance.

Agreed. I will try to do one later today. Glad my mailday goes from scanner doesn't do the justice from due to poor scanner when I started it out to due to nicer refracting cards.

Thanks. Glad it's a good ending and both seller and I feel happy. When I bought one of my best Kobes earlier, the seller told me he got a better offer afterwards but was sticking to the deal, I have been very fortunate that here and there top Kobe cards came from top people.
